Trying to come back to work in Qatar..... Bank Problems
I had to leave Qatar suddenly in 2007, im trying to come back to work in the country but since I left so suddenly I didnt pay off my debts with a bank. Can they stop me coming back in? What should I do? I have no problems paying them off, I just need to get in contact with them. Can they issue an arrest warrant for me? How can I find out if they already have?
Any info would be greatly appreciated
What month on 2007 did you leave Doha. I dont think the bank has filed a case in court against you just yet. It is only 2008 now. I think there will be no problem for you to come back here in Doha and when you do arrive here go immediately to the bank to settle your accounts. it takes 2-3 years before banks file a case against you and there will be hold-departure for you. Coming back to Doha is not a problem but the only problem is when you exit and there is a hold-departure order for you.
The best thing to do is get in touch with the bank and check your status.
The best thing is call the bank, ask to be connected to their credit and collection department, they will help you out and they will give you advice on what you have to do...for sure you are already block listed from entering Qatar...nobody from QL can help you out except the bank itself (for sure there's a phone or an internet connection in the place where you are staying...It's not stone age...so many ways to contact the bank) ...."IF THERE'S A WILL THERE'S ALWAYS A WAY" Best of luck!
Okay, so you didn't 'have time' to pay the debt prior to leaving. Unlikely, but let's take your word for it.
You then made no effort to pay the debt when you arrived in whichever country you're in now.
There's no getting around it - you thought 'screw this, I'm leaving Qatar, they can't get me now'.
The bank will have done what anyone who has had money stolen from them would do - they will have blacklisted you with CID and you will never be able to return to Qatar.
Sucked in, how's that for Karma.
:) me too... as you said he has not mentioned about the ammount period he was out of qatar .. ne ways what we say can be wrong aswell.. bank may top up his loan when he comes and he may win some prizes aswell :)
It was not a couple of days and the best way is for him to call the bank, no matter how much we discuss it, the bank is the source of information.
They may have done nothing, but they may have done something and calling the bank is the only way he will know and perhaps even be able to discuss clearing things for him.
He did not mention either how high the sum was, but that is his personal thing, he has to solve it.
I for sure would not risk coming in if I had bad debts - I have no interest to go to prison.
his intensions are to pay.. so let him pay and come back.. SCB is a international bank and he can pay from where ever he is now. and send the details to the relevent people such as his company and local bank..
in case you are coming for the fun or to meet soem old friends :) expect to be greeted by very friendly officers in the airport - hehe this ones a joke
This is my answer / advice for him.
Best way : - Never come to qatar.
Risky way :- if he wants to come, close the dues before he come and not after.
pick up the phone
give them a call
pay off your debts
Then...........Welcome to Qatar
YOU DONT KNOW ME, DONT EVEN TRY !!!
cool dude imagine.. a person who has a loan leaves for couple days leave and cannot return back due to any reason.. what will be his position on the above matter..
he is reapeating that it was the situation that put him in this place..
can we answer him or guide him accordingly rather than this.
You have asked for advice and people have kindly taken time and thought to give it....
Then you are rude....
Step out of your box and read your post again......
you have not paid off your debts.
..that is your responsibility to call the bank and sort it out
What you did was leave the country without paying your debts. You asked for advice and got it from me you have to sort it out yourself and this is yuor weak point.
I don't need the points QL because I don't care about recognition of points I have enough and never advertise how many are there .
Whatever happened in your life you have to deal with especially your debts and my advice was clear, if you don't want to go to prison call the bank it is so easy.
Don't worry I will not try to help you now even if I could - dig your own grave and jump into it.
I would suggest you not to opt comming to qatar again.
If you name is on the blacklist, visa can be denied, or even if you come in you will be arrested.
It takes a hell lot of time and money to save your ass.
You should have thought about it, when you'd left qatar.
It seems that you had enough time to close the loan, and you didnt do it either because of monetary problems or may be you thought that you will be safe once you've left.
Now, for you comming to qatar is as risky as putting your head on a death-trap.
So, think twice, or may be thrice before comming here. If you still want to come, close the dues with the bank and make sure that you would be safe before you come.
Canary..... I asked a question and expected to get an answer. I didnt come on here to find a way to get out of it. If you think I dont know what reality is, get on a plane fly a little north to a country called Iraq or a little west to a country called Afghanistan and you'll see reality. What has happend is accidental and was out of my control. Im sure even you have had mistakes in you life. So lay off with the BS and help someone who is trying to fix a mistake.
As for everyone else thats posted... I really appreciate the help
Enjoy your points canary! Not saying you've earned them
get bitt, the procedure in this case is that if it's a big amount, the bank will take the legal action, yes. if not, the fees for such case are usually higher than the loan itself, so it is not being done...sometimes.
get ur loan settled and get the clearance letter from ur bank that ur account is clean now.
just to do all this, u have to contact ur bank.
simple!!
If you're looking for a problem, you're probably gonna find one.
true. .... 1 point earned :)
CALL THE BANK and find out what they have to say, this is quite simple and this is the best advice you can get. This you have to do yourself or check through online banking of the account is still open.
How will you clear your situation otherwise and aboutthe police this is quite clear if it is registered they will catch you upon entry.
You need advice and you have received it, it is not about earning points, however, if you don't like to read about reality then don't.
Canary, i know banks hate that, i do hate those customers, too. they cause problems coz the insurance doesn't want to pay for them and they are the reason why the Risk Management has strict rules for loans for expats.

Honestly, it might be nice if I got some info rather than mom and dad speeches. Obiviously Im trying to get something taken care of. Are you seriously just trying to earn points on Qatar Living by posting? Seriously, save your carpal tunnel frustrations for someone else!
They put you in jail for anything be sure about this if there is a complaint raised and you are a risk they wil do it.
If the bank has already informed the authorities and you are on the black list, it is a problem... unless you sort out with the bank and they clear your name . Clearing the name again can be a problem since the offence is a state offence and not a matter of the bank only..
If they have not informed the bank... talking and sorting things out may help.... All depends on the amount... Normally bank may not care about small amounts, unless big enough to cover the cost of following it up...
Big amounts sometimes have had interpol involved as well...
...You can't mean what you say unless you can say what you mean...
It is very serious to leave the country and not pay debts, banks in general don't like this even if there is an insurance to cover bad debts.
If we have debts, we are responsible to act accordingly to pay the debts, otherwise anyone can come to Qatar, borrow money, and then disappear - hmmm I don't think so - this is a capital offence.
His best bet is to check with the bank to see if they have done anything i.e. informed the police or CID otherwise there is a high risk that he will be arrested upon arrival at Doha.
SC...ok....
do u have online banking with them?
how long is it since u have left?
what was ur outstanding then?
u need to take under consideration, that u will have to pay the interest and maybe some fees as well.
call that bank if u cannot check the outstanding online.
u will be blacklisted from the QCB for sure anyway. about the CID-might be, too.
if the amount was big, u may be in trouble once getting here.
i don't think they'd put u into jail in here for that though.
good luck.

standard charter
Call the bank I don't think anyone on QL can do that for you. You should have done this anyway when you understood you will be out of Qatar for a longer period.
If you borrow money then you have to pay it back you are responsible for your debts and the way you handle them.
may i ask which bank was it?
If you're looking for a problem, you're probably gonna find one.
it won't be that serious if u haven't left long time ago.
i'm sure u still have ur account number-just settle the loan. call the bank as well.
If you're looking for a problem, you're probably gonna find one.
Actually I am SO willing to pay the debt! I had to leave suddenly with the assumption I was coming back sooner. I didnt think I was going to get stuck out of Qatar for a long period of time. Life Happens!!
If you are so willing to pay the debts, why didn't you just go to the bank and do it before you left? It doesn't take that long to visit a bank and pay a bill - 3 hours tops.
I would say you are now black listed with the CID and you won't get a visa to return. If you come you may get arrested at immigration.
just pay ur debts.
yup, u might have problems getting in, if u didn't.
it depends on the amount as well.
