Yes I've done as you suggested (in fact I've gone through this and other things before to no avail)

Anyway, I shall be back in UK within a month and laptop works fine there so will just leave things for a while.

I'm pretty certain there's a problem with the connection within this building.  Internet came with the apartment and it's a shared server.

It will get sorted - no worries and thanks again.

If I get desperate I shall scream again in this thread.

:D

Well

DNS means Domain Name Service and this translated to english is: the one who interpretate the commun name like www.qatarliving.com to an IP address... the real address of every page.

This errors communly happens when your DNS is incorrect. Lest's do something

Go to control pannel

open network connections

select local area connection and right click - from the list click in properties

on the list f items scroll down to the last one: named Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)  and select it.

click in the properties button and you will have a new window

make sure both options are set to:

optain an IP address automatically

Optain DNS server address automatically

click ok to save all changes and wait a bit untill the settings are loaded.

i recommend to restart the PC and try again the internet access.

If this is not working I suggest you to message me to troubleshoot you situation...

It could sill be a connection problem. Has the line been checked?

I don't use wireless.  I have a cable connection.

I'm reading all your comments - thanks.

It sounds like a set-up connection or a line failure.

Have you checked that your laptop is set up with your own connection as the "preferred network"?

I was having similar problems recently (obviously not in Qatar) and was getting the same messages. A red light was on indicating that the wireless unit wasn't receiving any input. The local telecomms found a connection problem between the pole outside and the house, fixed it and the problem was solved.

Might be the Wireless Zero Service Disconnecting you

If your connection is wireless, which it may be because you mentioned you have a notebook computer, then you may be suffering from a windows "feature". The wireless zero service periodically disconnects you from the wireless router and looks for a better connection.

There are several ways to turn the service off. One is to open a DOS window and at the command prompt enter:

net stop wzcsvc

Good luck.

I sort of got the feeling I knew more about the prob than they did.  They were talking about 'refiguring' my darling, dearest, diary laptop!

YIKES

usually it comes back up if I hit the 'diagnose probs' thing, but what annoys me most is that any post or e-mail I was in the middle sending gets lost!

I'm so scared of it all crashing completely that my hub bought me another hard disk so's I can take off things I want to keep (like photos) from this laptop.  After I've done that I think I need to totall recover the system.

I don't want to do that, though, because it's only happening in this new location!   Laptop was fine in Mansoura and it works OK in UK ... so what's going on? lol

It's really peeing me off ..

i hate it.

i always restart my system whn it happens

it's really annoying isn't it?

I seem to spend half my life clicking on the 'diagnose problems' thing these days.  I'm about to explode! lol

I've uninstalled IE7 and reinstalled it - that at least sorted the problem out a bit - at least I wasnt off line for an hour at a time.

BUT now almost everytime I post on QL it goes into that routine again and I lose my post.

I KNOW there's a problem with microsoft - if I have MSN up it cuts out every now and again (more now than again) and screws up the browser.

I have firefox as a browser and made that my default for a while, but the prob still occurs.

It's a DNS thing - but I'm not techie enough to understand that.  Is the DNS the server in the apartment where I am?   Because I'm linked to that and I dont have this problem anywhere else.

Is it because I had a router in my last apartment, and I cant untangle the programme it has registered in my laptop?  The router certainly doesnt work here, cos I think it's governed by the telephone number.

HELP ME, before I crash this lap top totally ...

it happens to me 2 alot lol
