Why Labour Law seems to be one sided?

Its all out in town that the re-entry ban will be five years, etc etc.
Has anyone ever noticed that the laws are all about protecting the employers? How about the employees? There has been a lot of victims of cruel sponsors but did anyone ever give attention to this, as far as I know nobody yet. Employees don't even know what their right are as workers. This is like legalized slavery, am I right? We as expats seem to have no rights whatsoever. No release, no NOC, no increase in salary despite the fact that the cost of living is unreasonable nowadays.
Is there nobody out there who can speak for us? How about our embassy? The government should come up with laws that is fair for both sides, we should be treated as human beings and not as commodities in this country. Besides without us they can't do anything with their oil. It's useless without us pumping it out of their grounds. We play a big role in this country and the gov't should recognize that.

Has anyone actually ever tried to do something to change this?? In the UK, whether the rest of the population likes it or not, govt is going as far as inocorporating Sharia law into the legal system, which is a hugh step towards meeting the needs of the Muslim population. Then there are migrant workers who enjoy all th eprivilages and whose kids are entitled to the free education. This list could go on.. So let’s just all of us here sit around and moan how life is tough on us ...

If this is true it is such a shame - Qatar has a real opportunity now to profile itself as a destination of choice in the region for expat workers.

As soon as I mention this (5 year ban)to recruitment agencies they laugh and say Qatar will have to pay very high salaries to attract people under these conditions. Most expats will choose to work in the Emirates instead.

I have an employment ban of 6 months after having worked for Ashghal Public Works Authority, even though I was given an NOC, . The rules and regulations seem to change all the time. Currently I understand there is a two year ban for expats who do not complete their employment contracts. But, many private companies are able to work around this. But, not so for government.

It seems very short-sighted to implement such a ban - especially as there is such a shortgae of skilled labour in Qatar.

I agree with u....But, still, even though there are many laws in the Labour Law, which are favorable to employees, the authorities are not so strict in the implementation of these laws, especially working hours, holidays, overtime, leavepay, gratuity, medical...Many companies are still charging the employees for the renewal of visa, medical...and many things are going on....what to do....Better to skip Qatar...

It's the Qataris's country and their Companies. If this is to the better for them, then it should be like this.

Accept it or leave.

unfortunately, they don't. It's just like if u want to stay, you stay, if you don't want, then leave. Simple but not sensible enough. There are actually a lot more to improve here, for sure they know which, but of course thay have to protect their interest.

Even the Labor Law is too "generic". It is silent on many of its provisions.
