It's summer in Qatar! Window tinting is an important add-on to your car if you plan to drive in Qatar's hot weather as tinted glass keeps the temperature inside a car cooler. The purpose of tinting your car windows is to reduce the heat and UV rays from the sun that penetrates the vehicle's interior, thus preventing skin aging and skin cancer in the long run. They also help to reduce the amount of glare from sunrays or full beam headlights, making it easier to drive day and night. Window tinting can also provide privacy and style to your ride.
For the safety of motorists, the Ministry of Interior General Directorate of Traffic regulates the percentage of darkness permitted for glass tinting. Private car owners are allowed to tint windows, front windshield, and rear windshield with a maximum level of 10% darkness.
Now, if you wish to install tint film with a shade of more than the allowed 10%, you will need to seek approval from the Traffic Department first. We asked for clarification from the captain at the Mamoura Traffic Department on 29 July 2021 (8.50 am), and we were told that a vehicle owner can request a permit for a higher level of tint film only if a medical report (for example, eyes or skin problems) is submitted. The captain also said anyone caught violating the rule on glass tinting will be fined QR 3,000.
There are various types of tints available. The price varies depending on the type of vehicle. A premium film for a saloon car costs around QR 3,000, while it’s around QR 3,500 for an SUV. If you choose an ordinary film, it costs around QR 1,800 for saloons and around QR 2,200 for SUVs. The installation process generally takes around 1-2 hours.
You can call or visit tint installation shops all over Qatar and ask about the types of window tints available and the benefits each film offers. And don't forget to inquire about promos and discounts, too!
