Doha Fire Station to Unveil Summer Exhibitions Exploring ‘Urbanism’ and ‘Earth’ on 25th May
Fire Station is a contemporary art space dedicated to both supporting artists through its artist in residence program and connecting Qatari communities through opportunities and events such as exhibitions and public activities.
Espresso 4 the Road will look at the rise of the metropole and the birth of global culture, as well as how it physically and culturally connects communities. Mubarak Nasser Al-work Thani's includes, among other things, architecture, flora and fauna, geography, history, and exploration. Travel and road excursions had an important role in the creation of this body of work. The humorous representation of prominent symbols emphasizes global culture's universality and how we come to interpret it. The artworks also reflect the intangible human side of global culture, such as amusement parks, circuses, playgrounds, and other places that aren't necessarily destinations, but rather things that affect our moods, feelings, ideas, and behavior.
The second exhibition, Earth Metal by Yousef Bahzad, opens on the same day and addresses themes of erosion and manifestation, as well as the idea that people shape the land, and the earth shapes people. Bahzad believes he approaches his paintings “through expressive abstraction and a tinge of the surreal through a lens of mystery which invokes questions within the viewer.”
