Does any one of you guys know about diamond ring? Somebody is selling me a 14k gold ring with 0.4 carat SI diamond for 6700QR. Is this a good buy? or shall i ask 25% less from the asking price? I dont know much about diamond hence no idea if this is good price or price is way too high.

Diamonds are a funny gem! I spend quite a time researching them before i bought my wife her engagement ring.

Besides Clarity the there is also Cut, Carat and Color those factors togheter make the price.

First of all YOU must like the stone, it has to sparkle and "spit out" colours (presume you want a clear diamond and not a yellow one)

There are sites online were you can type in the specifications of a diamond and you will get a market price, this might be usefull as a reference.

Be aware thought, nowadays diamonds can be relatively easily reproduced or enhanced.

Good luck with your hunt

SI is not a good grading. Ask to see the stone through a jeweler's loupe. You actually will be able to see for yourself if it's a good quality stone. I'm not thrilled with less than half a carat for 6700.

I recommend you take the ring to a certified diamond expert to verify the quality have it evaluated. Also you will want the diamond certificate to match the stone. The expert will be able to authenticate it. If your friend is not willing to allow you to verify it, pass on the deal. Better to know than to find out later that it is not what you expected. Good Luck!
