Well you can download Softwares which allow you to send fax over the internet just like VoIP when you cann from the internet.
You should already have windows Fax in your PC, go to Start,Programs, Accessories,Communications,Fax

So, in other words it is not possible to send and receive faxes with an ASDL line unless you have an old fashioned modem in your computer?

To get SP3, download from Microsoft.
Where should you plug your phoneline into the PC if you have ASDL? There is no modem in the PC?

You can u Windows fax, you do not need to Have ADSL.
Just plug your phone line into your PC.
Run Windows fax.
