There is a service tag on the bottom of the laptop. You can go to Dell.com using that service tag and get all the specs on that laptop including its maximum memory. This will indicate whether you can upgrade the memory.
Computer Arabia in Doha can easily upgrade the memory if it is physically possible.
The best way to reinstate XP is to use the recovery CD that comes with the computer. It may be possible to get that recovery CD off Dell's web site if you do not already have it.
Hope this helps

Sadaf. My suggestion is to switch back to XP. Life shall be mcuh easier.
Mani I am sorry my friend but you are wrong about HD requirement, there is not a minimum requirement for HD for 150 GB for using vista. You only require more space for vista but not that much. Since they invented DVD, BR disks, HD technology was the main field with CD-ROM technology that has not been able to be improved for the mentality and technology they use. If you talk about Solid State Disks I can understand you but there is nothing to do about HD capacity for SSDs. I think max capacity for SSD are 32GB so far. In the future we are going to use SSD installed Laptops due to being efficient in power usage and being faster.
Regards
Minimum recommendation for vista about RAM is 1GB. Regardless of your lap top model your memory is insufficient for using vista. The best option is buying 2 pairs of 1gb and install it to your lap top if your main board supports (I think it will support it).
On the other hand for new computers and lap tops its hard to find driver for XP but for older ones its better to continue working with XP. I am sure you wont be able to get the benefits of vista without Core2, Core2 Duo, Core4 Duo processors.
Good luck.
Hello Sadaf,
i read ur post, as this Question is related to my profession, i hope my post will be helpful for u. Firstly with 512 mb Ram u installed Vista on it, it will work like a dead man is walking, the minimum requirements for vista is 1 GB Ram, HD if its more then 150 GB it will be ok else 150 GB is minum requirements, i think even if u upgrade RAM u still can not use Vista as processor Speed should be minumum 2 GHZ and as Vista has alot of high graphics, its VGA size should be minimum 512 MB VGA, i have HP DV 5 that recently my company bought for with INTEL Core 2 DUO processor, as in my profession i saw many notebooks, i m family member of HP, i have used HP with AMD processor and i felt that AMD processor is much faster then INTel processor, the Previous was HP DV 6000 With AMD x2 , but as per ur question, i suggest not to install vista in ur computer, it will still slow as other things like processor, VGA also need to upgrade....
Hai, Mr.nachu answer is perpect one small suggestion, you please go back to Windows XP version again, and RAM even you can buy 1 GB or 2 GB yourself from the computer shop and fix it in the slot at the bottem of lap top by opening two screws(there is provision of extra slot kept empty) in off mode only if you can.same time processor speed has to support if you go for 2 GB RAM. all the best.
it can be fixed, send me your email , i will send you the number of the person that updateds all our company computer , he can fix it for you , [email protected]
It seems to be quite old laptop as you have only 512Mb ram built-in. there are minimum system requirements for installing Vista on a machine. I guess you guys didn’t check that before installing. Vista in 512MB machines would be dead slow regardless of any brand. You should go back to XP and try to increase your RAM.
You can’t say how much your laptop would support unless you try it. Take your laptop service center and let them check it out for you. i guess you could go up to 2GB at least. Try "PCone" in Salwa road. They have in-house service center and RMA is available there as well. So you could do both the same time.
I have 4gb of ram and a bloody fast processor and still Vista is too slow and hangs often. Vista is pure bloatware and not worth the update. If I had an option, i would install windows XP.

Any computer shop should be able to upgrade your RAM. Try this first.
a small change...the laptop is of acer not dell
thnx
