Restaurant Food Tasting: Al Maskar

Qatar Living was recently invited to a food tasting at Sheraton’s new seafood restaurant Al Maskar, which takes its name from a traditional fishing method reliant on tidal movements.  

The restaurant is designed in a contemporary European seaside style with boating memorabilia dotted around the place from oars to a beautifully scaled replica of wooden yacht.  Its outdoor terrace is beautifully proportioned with a view over the Sheraton’s lagoon.

Guests were treated to a selection of dishes including Octopus Salad, Fried Calamari and a choice of Tuna Nicoise, Beef Tenderloin, or Roasted Chicken. The Tuna was a lovely portion of fish cooked evenly and accompanied by green string beans. Other Main options available are a ‘Catch of the Day’ Special, the ‘Fruits de Mer’ Tower or Rack of Lamb.

The ‘Fruits de Mer’ was a stunning dry ice seafood tower which showcased the variety of seafood available within the region from delicate oysters, glistening mussels, to fresh prawns and succulent crab. The shellfish was prepared by a steady and experienced hand and the accompanying sauces helped to highlight the fresh flavours of the sea. This dish is intended for sharing and can be ordered for 2 to 4 people sharing.

The Pastry Chef presented his spectacular Lemon Butter Tart which was an exquisitely light dessert. The other dessert options on the menu also reflect the need for a delicate ending to a protein-rich meal, with Chocolate Mousse, Sorbet and Ice Cream. 

For those looking for a seafood medley of skilfully prepared dishes then this should be your next port of call.  Elegant dining in comfortable surroundings, unobtrusive servers and a relaxing environment – visit with a group and share different seafood dishes for a taste sensation.
