How does GPS works in Omnia?

Hi there. I am new to GPS so need to ask some basic questions, Please help me.

My Omnia (I900) comes with a built-in GPS and has google maps installed as well.

Firstly I need to know that am I suppose to purchase the Garmin software even after having google maps on my phone. I have heard of some free softwares as well. Where can I get them from and how do they actually work.

Secondly, the google maps on my phone works only if I am connected to the internet, which means it's of no use if I am on the road with no internet connection.

Please guide me.

yes you definately need the internet and the garmin works perfectly, if you got your phone from here the the maps should be preloaded. I have on omnia too but alsa i have no clue how to get the internet connected. the settings qtel sends are incorrect for the phone. If you know the manual settings could u send them to me thanks.

Ps I did manage to obtain the qatar maps from another garmin and loaded it on my phone but need the internet to make it work
