Doha should make tunnel system city

Considering to weather condition in Qatar, I think Doha should make underground city connection like Downtown Houston Tunnel System. I just came back from Houston, first I noticed that during office hours in Down Town Houston I didn't see much activity on the street. Very quite as not many profesionals walking around and not many cars on the street. Finally I found all business activites were doing thru tunnel system. It's amazing to see people walking around underground.

The tunnel is about twenty feet below Houston's downtown street system, today's seven-mile Tunnel is a series of underground passageways which, with above-ground skywalks, link office towers to hotels, banks, corporate and government offices, restaurants, retail stores, and the Theater District. Most of the Tunnel is not owned by the City of Houston but by building property owners who lease space in their buildings' lower levels to retailers.

What's In the Tunnel?

Just about every service - with the exception of a major supermarket - is available via the Tunnel. In addition to several major food courts, you will find dry cleaners, shoe repair shops, sandwich shops, quality restaurants, snack bars, gift shops, specialty shops, clothing boutiques, copy and printing services, post offices, express mail services, banks, flower shops, dentists, doctors, clinics, drug stores, optometrists, eyeglass centers, beauty salons, and barber shops. The Tunnel is also connected to the Theater District's performance halls and Bayou Place, as well as to downtown's only shopping mall.

i don't think the water table should be a problem since they can even create massive structures under the water. is Dubai still constructing their underground hotel? I have read it somewhere, hoping it's not a hoax.

And then people will complain that the underground city is a ghetto of poor workers....

and agree it is a great way to get around there. It's almost as hot as Doha in Houston. The water table here is too high for this to work here. Another idea would be like downtown Calgary Canada. Lots of buildings there are connected by enclosed walkways about 4 stories above ground.

Unfortunately, about 20 feet below Doha is the water table, making such a project pretty much unfeasable.
