Not to detract to our big news of yesterday, we are going to be needing the financial means to move, so we've started an online auction that will help us with the continued running costs of the shelter and to fund our move, when we find a new property. Please see the lovely items we have up for auction and remember the reason we are doing this. Please bid genorously.

Its in the article. We need a total of about 10,000 sqm not to far from town so we can still have volunteers visit us.

Thank you for all your suggestions. We are very aware of ALL the animal places in Doha. Unfotuantely, most are not in good condition and as many times as we have tried, advise has not been taken and we cannot involve ourselves with properties or people who treat animals in such a manner.

We seek a property to rent that is not to far out of Doha so our volunteers can visit and that we have too ourselves. The way we are growing, we will have nearly 400 animals in our care by the end of this year. We cannot share.

The objectives of Doha Zoo and a rescue shelter are unforunately not the same.

Zoos keep wild animals in captivity, often in bad circumstances, as was evident of the previous Zoo.

A Rescue shelter rescues animals in need and places them in a safe environment, when not in a country that ties ones hands.

The two are total opposite of each other.

but I am curious... do you believe this approach hasn't been used before?

We have the Emir's kids coming down to the shelter to visit it.... think its not common knowledge that we are an unofficial charity that needs help?

If we could count on our hands and feet all the "Wasta" we have been introduced too over the last 9 years that hasn't done anything for us.... between the four QAWS girls, we'd run out of digits...

We need everyone to stand up and say something.... this is the problem everyone believe the next person will do something to help and it just never gets done!

Share and post!!! We HAVE to find somewhere to live in the next 5 months... even if we get any feedback from the powers that be.... It will take longer than 5 months to sort us into being a charity...

The idea given by Knight is the best option in my opinion as well.

I hope something will work out soon.

Xena, make a big article on this in a popular arabic daily making a request to readers for leasing their farmhouse to QAWS..I see this is the only way to comb out the potential owners who could help you. Besides, the governmental authority that is made to oversee animal welfare activities should take this matter up to the Emir if there's no solution at this level.

find a place... it would be up to the people that own it and most locals would not want 300 animals on their property, along with the 4 crazy women that run the shelter AND all its volunteers.

We've looked, but its for someone to offer it....

What can "we expats do?" well you can share the link and tell your friends... the more people that know about this... the better chance the government will see whats happening... a long shot yes... but its worth a try!

Frankly, what can we expats individually do? I guess, providing a shelter for 300 animals would require a huge farm. Money could be brought in from various organisations and animal lovers but you really have to find that big a farm.

Have you tried looking at some farms along the North Road on the way to Al Shamal?
