I believe Generally All of the above photos are processed great according with my HDR taste, and you did a good framing too. IHMO to be constructive the only downfall I could see is the halo black/white shadows on the buildings, which i found a lot of like this in my Photos too lol well I should try to avoid that too if I were you.
well the heck every person have their own taste when it comes with their own art and that makes life so challenging and interesting.
I hope I could see your photos in flickr, which I think the resolution reduces if you post your photos in non-photo forums.
Oh BTW above photos I like most are photos No. 4 & 8. thanks for sharing.
you can start at entry level SLR then master the art of ISO, apperture, exposure, DOF etc... etc..... you may have the expensive ones but without the knowledge your shot will be as good as point and shoot cams... IMO

mich1, then new Nikon D7000 is very good, i'm using that. it depends on your budget i suppose. If you can invest more there are better options as well
Sometimes the painted look is better - especially at the Ramada , late at night ..
Nice but a bit too artificial for my liking... I prefer actual photo's without any fancy effects .....
I like natural photos..

These are called HDR photography, it combines exposures of multiple pictures to obtain the above effect
Pictures are ok.. but it was over blown with HDR effect.
Either its my eyes or something wrong with those blare pictures.
