QL repulsion :-(

By Elegance

Last two days of Ql-ing left me gasping hard along with a lot of others reading the posts and comments by certain people like HERBERT DISILVA, Quagmire, etc...The racist and vulgar remarks continued and we were praying hard for a Moderator to come to the rescue...But it took some time before it happened.. How can we avoid this situation other than evacuating QL the minute it happens? I felt responsible enough to defend QL and all those who would be hurt by the comments made. But it hurts you at the end and you dont feel like coming back... What can be done?

Do the following with such threads:

1. Flag as Offensive asap.

2. PM your QL friends to do the same.

3. Send the link to the thread to the Mods.

4. Don't take it personally.

5. Don't keep on following such threads.

6. Most importantly - Breath in and Breath out.

I can vouch for the method I just described.

but apparently it is not. Some good posters on qatarliving have been banned who have not used foul language and have only engaged in very mild insults. Some "posters" on the forum are actually moderators and use their positions with a lot of bias to protect themselves or their friends from offense.I wish everyone would ignore and move ahead, as you say you do, but it seems they don't.

Moderators and admins seem to be acting like nannies to some users here. You are all adults here, learn to take some if you want to give some.

ex.ex.expat, we can read anything and everything. Its not a bad thing. The lack of control comes when they have the urge to comment! I ignore and move ahead. Why bother myself with people that have no self respect in the first place?

seems like some people on qatarliving don't have control over themselves and are forced to read things that offend them.

Just like the TV if you do not like it, navigate away. Yes some people do like to jump in and throw stones, or use foul words, but this is a free public fourm so you get what you pay for.

I have named the QL repulsion "The Painther Syndryome"...named after a Ex-QLer "Painther"

The guy got so fed up with all the foul words and mud slinging used that he felt that QL brings in a lot of negativity into a persons's mind.

I would agree that it is true to a certain extent...but what doesnt kill you makes you strong :)

It's a shame we can only flag whole threads and not just individual posts. There are a lot of genuinely threads that get hijacked and turn offensive.

ex.ex.expat... There is something called "concern for something which you care, love and want to keep safe". Rare visitors like you need not understand it....

Does someone stand behind you at the computer and force you to read stuff that offends you? Why some of you folks want a nanny state is beyond me...

Oh.. is there a way ? I did'nt know... I was thinking something like a "name & shame" should be present in QL...Anonymity creates a lot of guts to be your real self...most often the reality shocks...

And even at THIS very moment it is going on..regarding some poor soul called Lisbeth, who was right about being not interested in a crooked guy who is trying hard to tarnish her name...

Elegance, dear -- the best way is to ignore these lame members that join just to irritate others. If you want moderators to come on to the rescue, as you put it, I think maybe the best way is to 'flag as offensive' or e-mail the moderators. QL has turned into one huge complaining pool and its starting to get boring.
