The reason that they are more concerned about seasonal flue this year is because H1N1 and seasonal flue both have similar symptoms. If people get vaccinated for seasonal flue, the medical facilities will get actual H1N1 cases to deal with rather than everyone having seasonal flue going to Health centers and it will be a chaos. So in short, they want to avoid traffic in health centers because they know this time even when a person will sneeze, he will run to health center thinking that it could be H1N1 !!

I hope this makes sense :)

Maybe I was going to ask if Wery Big Monk of mafia games was every taken out?

Maybe I was going to ask what are you having for breakfast?

Or maybe I was drawing up a mental image of how someone goes about issuing a domestic decree "My entire family WILL be vaccinated or else"

Seriously I wasn't going ask anything

OK... I'll be more direct: I will vaccinate my whole family unless there's an official withdrawal of the program from the government.

I know exactly what you'll say, so don't bother.

Are you willing to take a risk when it comes to the dearest thing in your world?

I think you casually mentioned in another thread that you receive loads of emails about the h1N1, i'm certain that many of the emails weren't pro-vaccine.

Fully awear that you are taking the descison of voiceless individuals whom may have different opinions regarding their bodies later on?

Anyway, Probably is not a definetly. What are your reservations?

parents agree to give vaccination to their children. But yes the Govt needs to clear that the vaccination is not for H1N1 but can help not spread the virus easily...

its better soon they open the schools as its not the solution to prevent the flue...even people at home might tend to catch this virus..

You don't seem to get it... They're doing it in two phases:

Seasonal flu shots first.

Then Swine flu shots when they get them (probably in November).

Many people seem to think that if their kids go to school, they would die... (stupid idea)

Each seasonal influenza vaccine contains three influenza viruses-one A (H3N2) virus, one regular seasonal A (H1N1) virus (not the 2009 H1N1 virus), and one B virus. The viruses in the vaccine change each year based on international surveillance and scientists estimations in a given year. About a fortnight after vaccination, antibodies that provide protection against influenza virus infection develop in the body.

The seasonal flu vaccine will not provide protection against 2009 H1N1 flu.

In this case, greenthing, the government should make it clear: there is no swine flu vaccine. The vaccine used in Qatar works in the Northern hemisphere and has side effects. It doesn't protect against a new virus. Keep your hands clean. Anything else is tactics or politics, and meant to keep the citizens in the dark.

It's highly suspect. I think it's the H1N1 vaccine and sensing public hesitation they're trojan horsing it as the seasonal flu vaccine. Question is why this year for the flu, and if it is the H1N1 vaccine, why are they adamant we take?

Unless I see every UN frequenter take it with the rest of the world, I for one will not roll my sleeve up for God knows what.

I don't reccomend anyone elese does either.

The swine flu (H1N1)vax is not avalible. The seasonal flu vax is is a combination of the three most wide spread human flu viruses in the northern hemisphere during the last year. It's a good idea to have the flu vax anyway as it promotes 'herd immunity', meaning the less people that catch the virus the less it will spread thru' out the community and the mutation of the virus.

MD, there were mixed responses from the public regarding the effectiveness and safety of the vaccine. There could be some side effects and it may vary from person to person. To answer your question reasonably; I feel that the seasonal flu vaccine would be the first step and later the Swine Flu vaccine once its effectiveness is tested and confirmed.

but is there really H1N1 vaccine? personally, i dont think so too.. they just keep referring to seasonal flu vaccine as an H1N1 vaccine.. :/

I tend to agree with you, Lion_King. The question remains: why, all of a sudden, are they concerned about a seasonal flu? They weren't in the last 16 years as long as I am here.

MD, Personally I feel that this is a precautionary measure to limit the epidemic of flu in general at school level...I don't think that the Swine Flu vaccine is available in Doha as of today..

Is it for H1N1 (refered to as seasonal flu) or for the standard seasonal flu????????

By anonymous• 30 Sep 2009 14:27

Then why didn't they close the schools last year, and the years before? There also was "seasonal flu"??

The schools were closed for the preparation and implementation of the seasonal flu vaccine programme for staff and kids.... and not for the Swine Flu vaccine.

if the vaccine is not for swine flu, why did the schools close? wasn't the point to protect students against the perils of the swine flu?

By Lion_King• 30 Sep 2009 13:48

I understand that this is the seasonal flu vaccine but not the Swine flu vaccine.... so it's your call whether you need your kids to take the shot or not...
