Acute shortage of fresh chicken

The shortage of fresh chicken in Qatar following Saudi Arabia’s ban on export of poultry products more than two months ago has peaked.

“Fresh chicken products from the sole local supplier, Arab Qatari Company for Poultry Production, barely meets only about 25% of the requirement,” an official of a prominent retail outlet said yesterday.

One of the branches of the establishment received yesterday just 50 or 60 pieces of whole fresh chicken and they flew off the shelves in less than 10 minutes.
All that were left behind on the fresh chicken racks were less than 10 trays of thighs pieces, and that too at 9.45am. “These will also sell out within a few more minutes,” said an employee of the meat and poultry section of the outlet.

An elderly Arab lady customer could be heard complaining to the staff about the increasing shortage of fresh chicken. “I came so early to get some whole fresh chicken, but to no avail,” she said.

Another disappointed customer, an Asian expatriate, said for the second consecutive day he was returning without buying fresh chicken. “Yesterday, I had been to a big hypermarket in Gharafa around 1pm and all I could see were empty shelves in the fresh chicken section,” he said.

Just because they get easily sick does not necessarily mean they are not clean.. diseases can be spread through many means...even through the air you breathe, How much can a chicken do to keep the air clean. No wonder why all your chickens in your farm died, You had no clue what you were doing.

Without someone telling us what to think? We could always try thinking for ourselves... or just read the Gulf Times instead.

Chicken shortage? Don't be crazy! I read this in the newspaper so I have to believe it:

DOHA: Saudi Arabia’s decision to ban the export of fresh as well as frozen chicken is unlikely to push the prices of white meat up in Qatar, say market sources.

Qatar’s largest poultry firm, Qatar-Arabian Poultry Company, told The Peninsula yesterday they were meeting at least 90 percent of local requirements for fresh chicken.

“And the remaining 10 percent market need is being met by smaller local poultry firms,” sales director of the company, Mohamed Al Dassooghi, said. “So there are no shortages.”

my family farming chicken. we knew that chicken are easily get sick and whole farm will be exterminated within no time. if you have 2000 chickens in your farm and you bring just 1 more chicken without good observation it first, you may lost whole chicken in your the farm within 3 days. so, I think chicken are not cleaner than pig.
