Birla Public School - BPS Doha Standards

Hi All, My kid is studying at BPS Doha Since last two years. Last two years the educational standard was ok (not the best). At present, this year, I have noticed that there is a sea change in their teaching methods and approach. New teachers recruited and are seems to be inexperienced and not focused. For example my kids note book is said to be corrected by the teachers and signed by them - unfortunately the mistakes are always overlooked by them. So the children are learning subjects along with the mistakes un corrected. This is common with all the teachers since my kid is taught by many teachers. Also In PTM's the teachers are not available - the management says they are on leave. I assume compared to the high fees they are collecting, the teaching standards are still below the standards or declining. I request the parents whose children are BPS to comment on this. An individual letter or note to the school management will not help - only they will ask the parent to take his ward to another school.

Ideal is oneof the oldest and good Indian School. There are many among the alumni who came out as flying colours and vice versa. As I said it earlier, good education is a combination of 3 persons. Teacher-student-parent. If anyone is weak, it will reflect in the result & character of the child.

You said it rightly.

What's your opinion on Ideal Indian School?

It's a common concern of all parents of school going children in Doha, "which school is the best"??? I have three children and I tried with many schools. My experience is, there is no school in Doha, which has all required qualities and facilities, for the overall development of a child.

Some school lack qualified and competent teachers, some lack good infrastructural facilities, some lack good management, some charge exobitant fee, some have high strength of children in the class, some give more importance to extra-curricular activities than studies, some have only exams and studies & no extra-curricular activities, and the list is endless. Finally, I decided to follow the following strategies:

1) Admit the children in the cheap and best school, so that their educational expenses won't cross my income and budget.

2) Create a rapport between the student and teacher, by appreciating the teacher for his/her good work (even if it's not - after all the child is yours),

3) Occasionally call the teacher and enquire about the studies of your child, to make the teacher understands that you are concerned about the studies of your child.

4) Never talk bad about the teachers in front of the children, even if the teachers are bad, because children will lose interest in studying the subject of that teacher and he/she will not listen to the teacher. Always say good about teachers in front of the children.

5) If there is a mistake from the part of the teacher, point out it to the teacher only, not to the management. Going to the management would be the last resort.

6) Being parents, we are our children's first and the best teachers. So, spend some time with your children and help them to do their homework and activities.

7) After all, education is purely depending upon the teachers' commitment and interest of students to learn.

If your child get a good teacher and as a parent, you show little interest in your child's studies, then the rest is negligible.

my son is studying there.... most of the teachers are non cooperative. They always try to keep our mouth shut by showering complaints about the children. I have even asked for the contact number of the teacher - they said it is not allowed. Only interested in sending circulars for getting some fee.... They have offerred evening activities, my son has joined some sports activities - now he has stopped because there is no trainer available, and the available trainer is asking him to sit there and watch others play.. what sort of stupid system they have.

Take it as Robert Kirschner (Nobel Prize Winner in physics) said it:" School did not affect me much." If your child is clever (because you are), give him a chance to experience the company of equally old kids, but don't forget to teach him what is necessary! Forget the schools here as a source of reliable information and knowledge. They are 'businesses'!

The quality of education imparted in a large part, depends on the teacher. Some teachers are committed and love what they do, others....

Sending children to any school here is, by and large, a compromise. To gain something you have to lose something. The question is what one is prepared to lose.
