Hi there, My family will be moving to Qatar in the next 6 weeks or so and the issue of finding three primary school places is a problem.  Someone suggested Cedars Tutoring Centre but my husband's company does not recognise it as a school.  They said it was not on the Supreme Education Council approved list so the company will not pay fees and the problem is that the company has been researching the availability of school places on our behalf and everywhere else is full.....has anyone any suggestions?  It looks like I will end up staying at home with the kids until school places become available in DESS or Park House....Help!!!

If you are thinking about putting your children into cedars tutorial centre i would not do it as a long term thing, it is ALOT of money and very little in return to show for it. My children went there for quite a long period of time and made no progress. We removed them and home schooled them and within 2 weeks of being with their new teacher we found out one of our children is dyslexic (we had an assesment done) this should have been picked up at Cedars! I have also heard that it does not have a license and i have also heard quite a few bad things about the centre from many people. Its a shame as my children really took to a few of the teachers there but as the class had special needs children (which is a good thing but unfortunately the teacher had no support) i felt that my children were overlooked. It's ok for SHORT term but i really would find other schools that offer far more for less money. Really regret leaving my children in there as long as we did as we were told they had got about a year behind! Dont make the same mistake as us!!!!!!!!!!

Cedars is not a school and does not have a license. It is a tutoring centre. This can be verified by SCC and Ministry of Interior (and your company when they refuse to pay your child's fees because is it not a 'school').

My son attended this school very recently as we could not get him into anywhere else when we arrived a few months ago. The teachers at the school do an excellent job to bridge the gaps in kids schooling and get them into 'proper schools'. However, they are hindered by a lack of a lack of resources and space. This may not be so bad if it weren't for the terrible management.

I don't even really need to go into detail about this. Ask around and you will hear the same stories again and again.

Enter at your own risk!

Dear Dintovitch,

You are obviously party to some very private inside information about Cedars as you seem to know a great deal about them.

Anyway, as you are a Polish Financial Consultant I must bow to your greater knowledge and wisdom about British Curriculum schools overseas.

I stand corrected.

Do you mean Cedar tried to get a licence to be a school but couldn't?

Also one does not have to phone around to compare prices as everything is on the net and I think you already know what I had said is true.

Dear Ditovitch,

Sounds like a case of sour grapes to me! I suggest you phone around some schools and do a fee comparison.

Anyway, anybody who wants to find out more about Cedars can easily get more information and judge for themselves...

Dear Rhesus

If Cedar has been in Doha since 2003 why do you say. "you could say it is a "proper school"". Why doesn't it become a real proper school like others? Why does it charge so much, the same as some proper schools and even more than many other proper schools?

I am sorry but Cedar is still a centre that is not bound by the laws and regulations of a proper school.

Why doen't it live up to its responsibilities to children and become a licenced proper school?

Cedars has been in Doha since 2003 and employs UK trained and qualified teachers.

It is not a tutorial centre. Nor is it a waiting room.

In fact, you could say it is a "proper school"!

Cedar is not really a school, it is more of a tutorial centre. It is Ok as a waiting room if you can't find a place for your kid in a proper school but don't keep him or her there for too long.
