Hi

considering a position in Doha. And my wife is due our second child in July. She wished to head back to the cooler temps of Europe, however i am trying to find out the quality of services and costs of birthing packages in Doha.

I've picked up that al ahli hospital is ok, but can't find a website or any thread on the costs.

Can anyone help.

If you have a c-section at Al Ahli - then the epidural is included in the price.

Also - office visits are 300 QR. Labs and ultrasounds are extra.

Hi there,

I am planning to have my second child at Al Ahli in March (my first was born in Spain) and, as it happens, I was only in there today discussing prices etc, so here is (hopefully!) all the info you need:

Normal Delivery + Normal Baby Care in Nursery for 2 Days:

Single Room QR7,400

VIP Suite QR12,200

Royal Suite QR17,200

Normal Delivery + Vacuum/Forceps + Normal Baby Care for 2 Days:

Single Room QR7,900

VIP Suite QR12,700

Royal Suite QR17,700

Caesarian Section + Normal Baby Care for 4 Days:

Single Room QR13,800

VIP Suite QR23,400

Royal Suite QR33,400

The following are not included in the above packages:

Circumcision

Baby Hearing Test

Epidural Anesthesia

Al Ahli is a beautiful, small building and is more like a 5-star resort than a hospital! It has a lovely, relaxing feel about it and the staff are fantastic.I am going back to do an extended tour of the birthing suites, rooms etc tomorrow and would be glad to answer any more questions if you have them.

If it helps, I know plenty of people who have given birth in Al Ahli, Hamad or the American Hospital and all have been very happy with their experiences here. There is only one facility that I have been warned against and has several lawsuits currently pending. There is plenty of info about that establishment here on Qatar Living, or I can message you with the name of it.

If you choose a public facility such as Hamad, then you will not be allowed to attend the birth, but will be expected to wait outside in the men's waiting area. You can attend the birth in a private clinic, such as Al Ahli, unless your wife delivers by Ceasarian Section, in which case you can not be in the room with her.

At Hamad you can pay for a private room rather than recover in the ward, but once again, you will not be allowed to stay overnight with her because you are male. At Al Ahli, this is not a problem.

As for citizenship, you can apply at your local embassy for passport and citizenship once your baby has arrived.

Once again, I personally don't know anybody who has any complaints about delivering at Al Ahli or Hamad and I've heard wonderful things about the care at both. One friend of ours had her first baby in the UK and her second at Hamad. She said she was shocked at how superior the care and facilities were at Hamad compared to the UK. When I visited another friend after the birth of her baby at Al Ahli late last year, she was busy enjoying a foot massage and pedicure when I arrived, courtesy of the hospital!! I was sold on that alone!

Anyway, good luck with your choices and please do let me know if I can be of any further help.

Cheers,

Susan.

ps, if your company provides health insurance for you and your family then all costs for delivery etc may be covered for you. It is worth asking the question anyway!

My advice to you is to have your child in Europe. First, i think the servoce is much better there. Not to mention your kid will get the countrys citizenship
