Disable Parking Letter from Hamad Hospital

Hi All:

Now a days my parents are visiting Doha. My mother uses wheel chair. Few days ago, I parked at Disable parking and thought that I can do this but I got a QR 500 ticket for it.

I went to traffic violation center and requested to waive it because my mother was on wheel chair. They said that bring letter from Hamad hospital and they will waive it.

Now how can I get that letter? Is there anyone who experienced this situation before?

I'm inclined to believe in the physically-challenged blue sticker version, this is how the traffic police swiftly tag a parked car with a fine, without investigation, because they have not seen the permit sticker..

Oh Bumblebee, I'm sorry for stating the truth.

Never knew you are a housewife. I don't believe peoples profiles. Anyways, I'll refrain from speaking the truth.

I apologize if my comments made you fret.

notnapster, need not get too personal on this by putting such an insulting comments. Have I in anyway offended you or something that you have to come out with such a statement? Or you think that I am just a housewife here that you can simply pick and bully on? Anyway, I am not going into any further about the reasoning and etc with person like you with such a mentality. It is just a waste of time.

najamss, may be you can try to talk to the officer at the gate of the traffic violation center. May be they will allow you to park your car inside the compound by looking at your mom's condition.

If you have a disabled sticker on the car, then park there. Otherwise, drop the patient off at the door and go and park in a proper parking place.

bumblebee, the disable parking is for disables whether its the driver or the passenger.

Bumblebee, again you are making your crazy assumptions and coming up with ridiculous reasoning.

LoL .. now you are the one deciding the "reason" for having disabled parking spaces ?

Bumblebee, you've a really misplaced image of a hospital. Everyone that enters a hospital doesn't have a permanent disability or does not suffer from issues relating to mobility.

The reason the cops ask you to get the letter from Hamad Hospital is because Hamad hospital issues those stickers to people with a permanent and substantial disability which means you cannot walk, or which makes walking very difficult or they must always be accompanied by bulky medical equipment which cannot be carried around without great difficulty or they need to be kept near a vehicle at all times, so that they can, if necessary, be treated in the vehicle, or quickly driven to a place where they can be treated, such as a hospital

And to answer yet another of your mumblings regarding the number of parking spaces that will be required, go look around Hamad Medical Corporation, you'll find they have the most number of parking spaces for people with disabilities when compared to any other organization/firm in Qatar.

I can see that your ability to think and reason is extremely limited. Try using google and you'll know why or what these parking spaces are for. There are rules on where and how many of these parking spaces are required for different types of facilities/organizations/firms/Malls/etc. Ex. for a mall, it might be 1 in 30 parking spaces should be reserved for people with disabilities.

And to najamss - just getting your vehicle on that spot that is meant for people with disabilities will make you eligible to be fined. I know of one particular case, when a person turned to park in one of those spaces, when the person realized, he reversed out immediately and there was a cop rite behind the vehicle and there was a fine. No excuses. But in your case, if they see a wheelchair they might make an exception.

@ Bumblebee: Yeah I think so you are right. I should have to drop at that place and then park anywhere else.

Now the problem is this that Violation center is far away from parking.... How could I take my mother there in this hot season.....

Regarding Hamad, I have to take full day leave for that stuff because Hamad is huge and I dont know to whom should I go.

If the disable parking spaces are also for driver with disable passenger, then the hospital will need a lot of disable parking spaces!

The reason to have a disable parking space so that the person need not walk too far to get to the hospital or vice versa. But if with a driver the driver can drop the disable person at the entrance and then go park the car.

najamss if you get some info from HMC, kindly share it with us... its a very genuine point and needs clarification....

I know for sure that those kinds of parking is for anyone who has a physically challanged member in the family (and is carrying him/her in the vehicle). I am not sure how would be the process in Hamad..you probably need to go and check it yourself..but i would advice you to get the sticker for the vehicle. So next time you dont get fined since the sticker explains it all.

Good luck

Unfortunately it doesn't show when somebody has a disabled brain.

I always thought those parking spots were for drivers with a handycap who drive cars with the special gadgets to assist them. So i guess that looking at the car, the shurta can see whether it is for a handicapped person or not.

But on the other note how do you expect a disable person to drive, at least in Qatar. To be fair, this kind of parking space would also mean for these vehicle ferrying disabled person chauffered driven. Ideally, these cars have stickers to inform the authority.

I think that weather the driver or the passenger are disabled should either be allowed to use the allocated parking space, as it doesnt really make a difference which side of the car the disabeled person gets in or out from.

Maybe if you're out with your mom you could drive by a police station and hopefully you find someone compassionate enough to help allieviate the fine.

bumblebee, I'm certain the disabled parking spaces are for vehicles in which disabled people travel/own that have been approved by HMC.

Disabled drivers ?? lol .. devoid of logic.

So all the Karwa taxis that are specially designed for physically challenged people with hydraulic lifts are being driven by disabled drivers ?? Because they, like everyone else with the sticker on their vehicle are allowed to park in those spaces.

I've always thought those parking spaces are alloted for drivers with special needs, not the rest of the passengers in the car who are physically challenged.

Why didn't your mother visit the traffic dept with you? I'm sure that would be enough evidence, you wouldn't have faked it.

Sorry for the bad experience. I hope this gets solved without having to pay the fine.

Disable parking spaces are for disable drivers, not passengers. Obviously the traffic department is kind enough to give you a chance of waiving the fine.. good luck!

The parking space for the physically challenged is for the vehicles in which the physically challenged travel. Only vehicles that have the blue sticker with the wheelchair drawn on it (like the signs on the designated parking spots) are legally permitted to park in those spots.

How can you get the letter ? Now the police asked you to go bring a letter from HMC, so just go there with your mother and ask them about it. They might need to do some tests or if you have other medical documents it might suffice.
