Greeting ur loved ones w/ a kiss a crime here in Qatar?

Yesterday coming from work had to pick up my wife from our villa. When my she is inside the car i greeted my wife with no malice & a regular kiss when a sedan car speeding to my back as if it will hit my rear and a man in his late 20's w/ long beard got out of the car fuming and approached me as if he wants to kill me & shouted at me "where do u think u r!?" repeatedly. Shock & surprised i just looked at him and ask him "why? what is the problem? he answered me again that question. Still surprised i answered back "i am inside my car". And then he told me to come out of the car so i came out. He is shouting at me saying that why did i kissed the woman inside the car. I told him to stop shouting at me and talked properly. Told him also that woman is my wife and just greeted her with a kiss like i was always doing w/ my mother, sister, brother, father, my kids & also some of my friends. And that is not a malicious kiss. He told me it is illegal to do that bcoz we r in muslim country and told me also "what his wife will say if she will see us greeting with a kiss" Huh? He asked for proof that she is indeed my wife. So i showed him our marriage certificate w/ arabic transalation. Then he told me that if i want to greet my wife it should be through SHAKEHANDS. Huh? I said ok as you like..And told me not to do it again. I said ok no problem.
I did not anymore bothered to ask who he is i just wanted to finish our conversation bcos i was really pissed off and thank God i controlled myself. And i dont want us to go to the police bcoz i dont know what will happen next. I just wanted to protect my wife bcoz it's really scary experience for us.

Yes sad to say,, this is Qatar,,,,Don’t you feel sad for the people that react like that over a friendly hello kiss to your wife,, be remember it’s ok for him to greet his male friends with the 3 kisses to the check also. ( thast ok)But hay I’m not gay so who cares, do as I say,, not as I do.. as we say,, this is Qatar…

For all those law connaiseurs: do you base your replies on a specific law? If that's the case, please give details (sharia, civil law, paragraph, etc).

I think a clear distinction should be made between tradition and law.

And by the way, men kissing is not immoral, but men kissing women is, right? Like God/Allah made us same-gender-lovers... I'm amazed by this hypocrisy.

Unfortunately, I tend to agree to the other people: don't try to understand, just clash your jaws, take a deep breath and try to obey these so-called-rules.

It is, in the end, their country...

what he said is not BS; the law is very clear: it's illegal to show affection in public. from holding hands, to $ex in public.

this said, the self-appointed police guy has no right to interfere; it's not his duty nor right. in fact he can be repremanded for doing so. all he can legally do is report the incident the police (and of course he has no right to take photos for evidence).

Do you carry your wedding certificate all the time with you? and translation too?

I never thought of doing this... do I need to?

This is such a funny thread and the funniest contribution of all is the first response - in a world where funny = pathetic that is.

Some people just like poking their noses in other people's businesses. You kissing your wife in your car should not be anybody else's problem in my view.

it depend on the place, if u r in a modern place e.g. (Pearl, 5 star hotels, certain compounds, etc) no body will mind if u kiss or hug or whatever, but if u r in normal street then u better postponed it regardless if it is illegal or not but for your own safety

The only action which is by law prohibited here in qatar is having sex in public but to kiss ur wife or any beloved one an occasional quick kiss is never prohibited, ok some people are sometimes over reacting but if something like that happened in the future just get the plates number of this guy's car and report him to police telling them that he scared your family by his actions which accordingly gave you an unsecure feeling of living here in qatar with ur family ... Trust me they will respect this and they will take action.

What this man told you is pure BS ... In Islam there is nothing saying that in order to great your wife or any of ur beloved ones you must only shake hands, if my wife is celebrating by birthday and she gave me a present in a restaurant or any other public place ... U think she will accept only a hand shake !!!! Simply she will take the present back :) !!!!!

You are lucky that he did not call the police and handed over both of you for immoral act in the public. It is their country and you must respect their culture and law.

Sorry for the correction.

This is Qatar and you should abide the rules and culture of the Country. Kissing in public even if it your wife is illegal and you should have avoided it. You know very well what will be the result if you protest against it.
