How easy to find nanny outside of agency?

Dear Qatar Living members,

Our family is moving to Doha from Europe in a couple of weeks and was wondering how easy / difficult it will be to find a nanny / house help. I would prefer to arrange the job with a person already in Qatar (maybe from a family leaving the country) as opposed to taking a chance on someone not familiar with life in Doha through an agency.

Have posted an ad in the classified services section, but would appreciate suggestions about other possibilities, if there are any.

If you are going to live on a large compound then you can let people know that you are looking (including other maids) and you will probably find someone through the grapevine. Thats what we did, then transfered the sponsorship ourselves which took a few visits to the immigration department before we got all the necesssary paperwork.
