i am hoping for bbksiu to start it....he is keen into it and he will be happy to do so, but i dont think he has seen this post yet.

i wanted to tell you something i came across,umm sumaya.

i have this book of supplication where there is a dua to ward off evil eye which our beloved prophet pbuh used to recite and blow over his sons and he did so because prophet Ibrahim pbuh who used to do the same for his sons.

this is wrt warding off the evil eye.......so i would think that since you also read surah naas,falak and khul wallahu ahad for keeping the evil eye away, you could blow over the children, having recited these duas.

what do you think? can you check this out?

i was just wondering if we should open an independant islam post here where muslims can just interact, ask questions, get their questions answered.

no debates, they get ugly.

like we had a different view on the duas so we can share our knowledge of whats right and how we can correct ourselves in any small way.

no criticisms.

just plain simple interaction.there is someone going through divorce on this forum and she too has many questions....someone could help her out too.no compulsions for anyone to comment but we could just keep the thread alive by small posts, simple duas in english.

no, you are not making a big deal at all......its what is right and wrong...if i am wrong i have to correct myself.as it is i feel most muslims are the worst followers of islam.......so if even a small deed can be corrected......and u have helped me in it...then its sawab for you and for bbksiu too.if i help you correct you or impart some knowlegde of mine with you...then its sawaab for me.no ones an expert.we learn everyday as allah wants us to learn.

I heard that one expert (in chemistry or sounds) mentioned that when reading Quraan or saying a good thing on a glass of water, the water molecules get organized together in a nice shape.

When saying bad words to a glass of water, the water molecules have unorganized shape.

Just a comment, and I'm not a scholar, but u said

The only case I know of is at night after reading the 3 suras, before bed. This is in the prophetic tradition.

But do we blow after all doa's? Or at other times? I don't think so. I haven't heard of it done before. But like I said I'm not a scholar.

The best thing, in my opinion, is to try and find it's proof from the Quran and Sunnah. There are lots of website where u can ask the shiekh questions and he answers showing with proof eg. from Bukhari / Muslim / Ahmad

I don't want to make a big deal of this, just want to enjoin the good and forbid the bad Insha-Allah.

usually i ask my son to repeat alhamdullilah and he usually ends all the duas with allahu akbar.

the problem is its become a habit and have to try to break away from the habit if its not right.yes most cultural practices are not islamic and in india u will find hoards of it.

but we do blow on ourselevs after reading duas to ward off satan..........so can it it still be applicable for parents to do it for kids?

It's very nice to have this discussion with you all. I agree 100% that kids need to learn to Love Islam, not be forced to do things without explanations/discussions. My kids love to 'discuss'.

Han19 - this is the first time that I've heard about kids 'receiving' the doá by you blowing on them. Even though u might have seen it done lots, maybe it's better to ask a Shiekh about it. Some cultural practices are not Islamic. Perhaps your kids could learn to say 'Ameen' after you recite, even the very small can say that.

learning is a continuos process n i believe allah guides each one of us as to how much we r ready to learn everyday.

I feel good when being in the Islamic environment. I hope all our children have a good Islamic environment to learn about Islam. People are learning Quraan, I feel happy.

As I know, in a psychological study, people were shown pictures. Some of the pictures were shown more than once. They were asked which pictures they liked best, they chose the pictures that were repetitiously shown to them. Maybe this study gives us a hint in educating our children.

Becareful! do not make your child feel forced to learn. Make learning Islam to them a lovely thing. Let them associate Islam with positive things.

blowing on the entire body is usually the dua u say to push away the satan or at night when u retire to bed.u blow 3 times i think.

i do it for the kids because they dont read or understand the duas or quran so when i read it to them and finish with any supplication....i blow ameen on them.and they know when i have finished reading they will come and sit in front of me to receive the duas.

its a practice i have seen for a very long time.

kids are innocent and allah is with them always...and this si the right time whent hey pick up verses and dont forget it at all. i remember the kalimah n duas as i learnt it from childhood,,,.....the problem is some have mistakes in the pronounciations and i still find it very difficult to change the pronounciations.but trying everyday.

we insha'allah can guide them to the right and help them learn all that is there in this world.

One thing that I'm trying to do is to teach my kids to do things following the Quran and Sunnah and not cultural practices. Coming from a mixed background frees me up into not just following one culture but following the deen itself, Insha-Allah.

My kids are only allowed 'Muslim music' not 'yucky music' (as they call it)!

It's so sweet about your son and the Quran - kids are so innocent at that age. I have never heard about reading doá then blowing on a childs face - can u tell me why u do that?

The Prophetic guidelines about raising kids (sorry don't have the source on me) are: Love them for the 1st 7 years, then teach them for the next 7 years then be their friend for the 7 years after that.

If anyone has the source, pls post it.

i do the same thing...like when leaving the house he reads the dua...only then he gets to listen to music :-)

at night too he reads the kalimah....and then sleeps. he knows the book of quran.the only problem is he wont let anyone else touch it bcos he thinks its mine alone so no one else shall read it but me...its a battle when someone else touches the book but that is his innocense...masha'allah.

he knows after salat i have to read duas from my book so he gets me my dua book.even if i get lazy he makes sure i read it by getting it to me.

i usually read the dua and blow lightly on my 15 month old baby's face...now she comes and does it before i do it as soon as i have finished my salat.subhanallah.

so its not necessary to make them sit to learn now?i can waiti for some time then?i was not sure when to start.

I try to teach my kids by example for example by saying the doá loudly eg. before / after eating, before sleeping etc. They might not seem that interested at the time, but you'd be amazed at how much they seem to retain. After some time they are the ones that actually remind you... (happening with my 5year old now)

Also, I try to read some Quran together with the kids when I'm putting them in bed. It's become our 'bedtime routine'. And even if I'm too tired, they insist that it has to be done - which is good for me and them!

I wasn't going to sit them down and teach them formally until they were about 7 years old.

Oh and tahfith / hifz = memorization.

Anyone else have any ideas or hints for teaching kids?

what is tahfith?i am not a great fan of atending classes but

most importantly has you child started learning bcos my son knows a few duas that i have thought him but i am not sure when to make him sit and learn...bcos he is still not in the sitting stage to learn anything..he is 3.

do u teach your kid and do u have someone come home to teach?

Salaam Alaik Sister - I currently attend a tajweed class, however the problem will be that at that centre they do not allow children and I understand that won't work with you.

I also am doing tahfith, i don't go to a centre for that but i recite to a friend. Perhaps I can help you out with that since I have time - I sure am no expert on tajweed/quraan but I sure do know the feeling of slacking and putting it off when you don't have incentive to do it.

there is a channel called quran tv where there is 24 hours quran recitation.

whenever u have time why dont u check it out. it cud help you.

or else if you have arabic freinds who can read quran well...u could take their help too.

I was asking about myself, esp in relation to tajweed and hifz classes. You really need to have your recitation heard by a teacher in order to 'fix' the way you're reading.

As for the hifz, well I really do need the encouragement, otherwise I end up getting slack and putting it off.

the quran will give u all the informtion and then the hadith and even if u dont understand then the net gives u a lot of options........unless u wish to attend such group discussions then i cant help you.

i dont like attending groups,my school is my home and my elders at home and when i am not convinced i do my own research.

if i can help you...do let me know...although i am no punter in religion...but u never know who can help whom and when.
