Just letting out my anger

i am used to being "bullied" around in the streets of doha by bigger cars. for most of us who live here in doha and drive in it's streets it's not an unusual sight or experience when someone cuts you on the lane or rapidly flashes his/her light on you from behind, or just witnessing plain stupidity on the road. but experiences like me and my wife had last night makes you just want to throw your hands up and say "i give up! this land cruiser drivers (who are mostly involved in this type of incidents) are just born extremely stupid or they just want to die quickly and in doing so kill other people in the streets."
The incident: we were on our way home in Al Hilal area, a normally quiet place. there were two lanes for two purposes (obviously for vehicles going in opposite directions). we were in the first lane, the second lane was empty after a car just passed by, i made a left turn signal a few feet before our turn, i already noticed the bright lights of a cruiser behind getting close, i thought to myself "dude, just a moment, look i'm signalling left, i'm almost out of your way and you can go on with your business." when i was about to turn left, to my surprise he was already in my left-view mirror overtaking me on my left. i stepped immediately on the brakes, he blew his horn as if i was getting in his way, my wife gasped, and the monster just screeched away. We didn't move for about 10 seconds, my wife was breathing hard, she's 3 months pregnant. But i guess insane drivers like that doesn't mind at all whether you're wife's pregnant or you've got kids in your car. They only care about themselves and getting their own way on the road. I know everyone's thinking that that's just life here in Qatar, but i swear i'm going to hurt someone when they hurt the people i care about, especially when they are with me in a car. My wife had some minor pain when we got home. And i was just angry, but also felt helpless.

Qatar should do something about this, coz sometimes it's just too much when you're family's life is at stake.

Chocoholic- Was that aimed at me???

Cos I can tell you now I will not set off in the car if my children are not seatbelted! I am not one of these muppets that think " oh well, if its their time to die, its their time to die"!!!! I love my children to bits and will do everything possible to ensure their safety in and out of a car.......

i had the same experience last week. i am a student driver and while on the road there was one pick up behind me and was flashing his lights and blowing his horns while there was also another car in front of me (the traffic light was in RED that time so i should stop the car). i was not even causing a traffic jam. when he found a chance to overtake from me he drove his pick up as if that was already his last day of driving. lol

but it's good that my teacher was there to step on the breaks otherwise something bad might have happened to me. i mean he should have been a little considerate on that the car in front of him because abvoiusly it's a car for a student.

Another great reason to wear your seatbelt and strap your kids in at ALL times

I really hate the roads here too. I do the school run every day with my 2 very young children in the back and you can guarentee at least once if not more times PER DAY I get cut up one way or another and I am scared to death for the safety of my kids!! I wish they would all grow up and drive safely as they are not the only ones who have to use these stupid roads....

Back to camels I say. At least they could not kill someone riding one of them!!!

Pinoy2005,

The exceptions are so few that are almost invisible.

It’s not a matter of nationality but more a matter of culture/education.

Behaviors have patterns that can be linked to r3egions and definitely, the disrespect on the roads in Qatar, although they can come from any where in the world, they are typical GCC behaviors (triggered by poor education and oversupplies of money).

So it’s not only Qataris, it’s mostly GCC citizens and others dressed in local (regional) style!

careful of words Qatari coz there are lots of fake Qataris now a days and they are even worse than the locals. most of the Qataris(original Qat Nat'l) are kind and educated... BEWARE OF DUPLICATE.........

Feel sorry to hear about all these endless road rage. Its something we all could not, or never do about regardless of what ever traffic laws that are in place. Perhaps one day they will realise their mistakes, and lets pray for it. Again the saying says "this is Qatar".

this is really crazy, i tried the other day to overtake a traffic jam on a r/a from the right, a qatari in a lc openned his window and started preaching me on driving etiquette

what kind of society is this?

Yalla!

I totally understand the revolt you feel!

What these monsters deserve is that everybody would have enough of their uncivilized behavior and abandon their country and leave them to rotten with their loads of money.

This is a serious problem in the GCC countries totally ignored by the authorities who seem that themselves have not yet achieved the civilized level to act upon!

I'm sorry to hear.. This makes me feel mad. The lack of common sense on the streets is getting to me more and more these days, I think people are getting more and more stupid. If they wanna go kill themselves, don't put others in harms way as well. I really want to know WHERE these idiots are heading to when they drive like idiots?? It infuriates me how selfish people can be with the way they drive.

@deedee, yes indeed. Reporting to the police is a bad idea since they themselves are as constipated as the others. Owning this country doesn't mean owning the roads. I don't know what kind of mentality they grow up with. There are all kinds of ridiculousness everywhere.

this happened to my neighbor, but the cars collided. The police said it was my neighbor's fault, that he should have stopped and let the jerk go around him on the left. Ridiculous.

Drivers here are normally constipated. I do understand them a lot of times but there are times when they piss me off too. I think there's nothing we can do about it. Just wait 'till they get killed from their own doings.
