Hello Friends, My landlord came to me with a paper from his lawyer, stating that, in two weeks time all of us 14 families must move from the building as there will be repair work soon. There is a paper, stamped and signed, by the ministry of Interior officials ran to court and deposited our rents and now we received a SMS from “courts” that there is a date set for our hearing. Now my question: Will the court decide on the same day about our case, whether to vacate the house or have some relax period?Or there will be several hearings, before our case gets a decision? I am hearing terrible stories and want to listen about you experience over a similar case.Is it likely that the honorable Judge normally gives some relax time, if yes, then for how long, normally?

It seems that we have to vacate the flats as new law is not saying anything about this situation.

Thanks very much

Thanks very much friends for such a valuable input Actually, I have been having contract for the last 5 years and it expired in Nov-07 but neither, He came to renew the contract nor He took the rent from all of us.I am working out side Doha at an offshore location and my family told me that He came with a notice from his lawyer. He sent one month before some kind of warning but not from his lawyer. He came with a paper from Interior ministry now and it seems original. All of us are depositing the rents in the court. I offered him QR 7000 as I want to move after kids exams but He refused. I think He want to partition these big apartments and build another floor. I have soft corner form him as He can make QR 15,000 per month against > 50,000 He is making now but we are human and so be him? Please tell me, in Al-Sadd, where is the court and how it goes as the day I am landing in Doha, I had to rush to the court and I am very much worried and finding locations in Doha has always been killing me? There is another problem as well: The man from the court came to hand-deliver the letter from the court but I was not home and He returned and never came back, all I have is a SMS on my mobile. I do not know how to receive this letter now as I am sitting 150 KM outside Doha, doing my duty!

If someone is having at least a two bed and a lounge accommodation with a kitchen , bath and a totally separate entrance, then please inform me as I have to put together a contingency plan, right after I had heard the court.

Again many thanks for help

do you have a contract with the landlord before your stay? are you in direct contract with the landlord or someone else since you are 14families inn?

if you started with the court, does the rest of the 14 will be with you or you will be alone?

Unfortunately, the court system in Qatar is corrupt. Its not a real court system but a few people get just results. Good luck!

Find out by yourself. Go directly to the court. It might just be a way to evict you. If it is real, don't panic, two weeks is not lawful, it should be three months, unless the landlord, had given you warning earlier in writing.

2 weeks??? that's a very short time given to you...but you're right you should find out if it's a valid eviction notice or not.  I heard some landlords are getting tricky these days presenting fake notices.

I suggest you go and present your case to the new housing committee and ask advise from them, or approach a lawyer to help you resolve this issue.

goodluck!
