Hi every one

I am looking for a maid. I just talked to an ethiopian. She wants to be live in during the week and live out on friday and saturday. She told me she was sponsored by a qatari man. She's asking for 2000 QR.
What should I ask for to check that she's legal? Do you think the salary she's asking for is ok?
Many thanks for your help...'

I would say that since she is live-in most of the week, QR 2000 is high for a starting salary - because you're still providing her with housing and most likely food. She does pay large fees to her sponsor for the visa, and you won't be paying those fees directly, but in the long run, if you want a live in , its probably better to sponsor her yourself. Legally, you need written consent from her sponsor for her to work for you. It's also important to confirm that her sponsor exists -- even if she has an ID card, she could be a run-away - and you could get in trouble for having her work in your house.

I asked about the maids and they told me that there was no a maid with such a salary. Phillipinos and others have around 700-800 riyals max. Also, I was told they are not bringing Ethiopians anymore. However, even if all her papers are ok, and you dont mind to give her this salary, which i dont believe is the amount for her, i dont think it is secure to bring somebody who wants to go out during the weekend. You want your family to be secure and safe when you are not home. You dont know this person and whom she would go out with.

The salary what shez asking is ok..U just need to do is:

1.Ask her sponsor's name, contact detials and tel.no.

2.Do ask her passport copy to keep it with urself.

I had hired INDIAN maid long back and v did the same for live out condition.

All the best..thnx.

There is no a maid in Qatar that has salary of 2000 QR. To be on the safe side, go to the agency and take the maid. I would suggest you Al-Ward in souq Al-Ali, behind the KFC (Madinat Khalifa). They are open every day from 7-12, and 4-9 p.m.Also, there are the numbers:4874-522 and 4872-672.

I have an Ethiopian housekeeper and we started out with the same arrangement. After a year we transferred her sponsorship to ours so she wouldn't have to pay her old sponsor. We've been very blessed to have her. If she's experienced, it's a good salary.

If she gets into any trouble...as you haven't sponsored her, you can't get into trouble. Have you asked for her sponsor's name and phone number? Good way to know if she is legit. There are horror stories of maids coming in and leaving without a trace with people's goods and wonderful tales of maids being almost like family. Trust your gut feelings (they are there for a reason) Good luck!
