Since starting this thread 10 weeks ago, i still haven't found a live-out nanny, or a company that deals with them.

Not sure what else to do.

As far you are not indonesian you can sponsor your maid. Easiest way used the maid agency over here to do the paper work. The cost is not cheap. A friend of mine spent over QR 6000 for the paperwork.

Go to expatwoman.com, there are few ladies who bring maid full time live in.

Hi

I'd like to bring my Indonesian maid with me.

What is the cost other than air fare? Is there some kind of sponsorship fee and what would be the process. I will be getting my current maid ( working with me in Malaysia) , so do I need to pay agency fees? Also is the going rate QR 700 /month?

Thanks

keromal, try contacting the aforementioned agencies for live-out nanny options.  I have a few live-out nanny contacts of my own that I can PM you (if you wish).  They work around Landmark & Duhail area so they prefer other part-time jobs located there.

I'd have second thoughts about having a nanny holding my 6-month-old baby.  INHO, she needs mommy full-time at that age (if it is economically feasible).  We didn't get a nanny until dd (darling daughter) was 1-year-old.

Working with Manpower Agency (behind Immigration R/A), they took one month between selecting a nanny and I picking her up.  They said part of the delay was caused by the availablity of flights from Jakarta and Doha.  Apparently, the agency wanted to bring over a whole bunch of Indonesian housemaids/labourers on the same flight.  So, having to book them all together delayed the flight.

Nanny or maid (housemaid) mean the same thing. In Arabic, kadama (sp?). What matters is the skills/experience. If you want a nanny, look for childcare experience. If you want a housemaid, look for housekeeping experience. But its the same kind of woman you'll be hiring or sponsoring. Find this experience/skills out from interview or a candidate catalogue. If you want to sponsor a kadama, you need to get her a kadama visa.

AGENCIES contacts:

1) Golden Man, sofitel 442-4487

2) Jassim Group Tilting R/A

3) Manpower, behind KFC Immigration R/A -- I sponsored my current housemaid with this agency. They had the largest selection of candidates in their housemaid binders from Ethiopia, Phillpines, Indonesia. My selection criteria? Ability (cooking, childcare) more important than language. This criteria has worked out with our current maid. I have their number @ home if you want it!

4) Bin Omran, near Bin Tower Centre

5) gency 432-2355

- Sri Lanka (Q600/month), Indonesia, Qr5000 fee

- Sana R/A / Marriott Hotel, after Kabob King, on R side

6) Jassim Services 447-7305

- fee QR7000, Indonesia Q600/month,

- Eirij-Binmahnoud (Jaidah R/A and The Centre R/A (between) turn R, signboard, enter signboard, pass 2 signals, 1st R after signal

7) Rose services 469-7711

8) Al-Dukhnan 572-2922

9) Al-Wacal 432-2355

sbdesign, sorry I didn't answer your question earlier.

Maid posts attract me like bees to honey.

(Did I hear groans from the other QLers?)

Going rate for live-out maids who you don't sponsor = QR1200/month (depends on ethnic background (Filipina, Indonesian, OR Ethiopian -- cheapest is the last)

Going rate for live-in maids who you sponsor = QR700/month. This is the agency-required rate for Indonesian housemaids (which I have) but Phillipino is QR800 and Ethiopian is QR600.

Personally, sponsoring your own housemaid is the way to go. The agency fee is steep up front (QR7000) but it pays off -- peace of mind (she's more dependable) and lower per-monthly fee. But not all wives like the idea of another woman hanging around the house. Mine is OK, but some aren't.

I object to that comment - if you want a maid or nanny you can organise it easily through and agency. You need to get a visa for her from the labour department first.

and stop asking why folk haven't answered your questions:

a) we aren't obliged to

b) the question may have been asked b4
