I heard rumors of a new American based curriculum school coming to Doha. I also just recently took a survey asking me questions about what I would like to see in a new school.
American curriculm school, with an American principal. Still testing the water with this school. I am new here and this was the only school we were able to get my children into. (American curriculum) . Lots of textbooks. They are not taking any Qatari history or geography, which i thought was mandatory here. History, geography, social studies etc...USA
Could you please provide me with ACS's contact information. I am not able to get their numner from information (dialing 180) or find their contact on the net. Thanks
Hi dear, I was glad to see an American Curriculum School to open in Doha, however I was disappointed after I got my daughter in. They talk alot and they are really good in painting, advertising, dancing classes, but education part is kind of poor in some grades, and you can't tell if they are running American curriculum or South African or British,or another. up till now I haven't seen the curriculum actually I don't think the teacher's aware of what curriculum is, and if anyone ask them about the curriculum, you will get nothing !!!.. No approach nor respect to parents unless selective once.. Management Zero, Some parents are running the school and teachers are running the principals. Most of the staff are from South Africa and almost all of them are local hire.. They are calling for American curriculum but inside the class rooms they are teaching their own things,,,,,yes! The young teachers has no clue what teaching is with no experience, eventhough, they are not professional.
I am glad to hear that, but you should follow up with your kids to see if the curriculum is being emplemented and not only activities which some parents will be happy with. Education is the key .. Like I said, teachers and some admin are selective of dealing with parents. Wish you all the luck..
Actually we are very happy in ACS. We started in ACS till we get a place in ASD, but after few months we decided to stay in ACS even when we offered a place in ASD. Kids love it. School has been great with education and communication with parents. I know it is getting hard to get in since their waiting list is expanding very fast.
I can confirm that ACS Doha International School will be opening this September, initially for students aged 3 to 14, and with a High School opening from 2012. We will be offering our prestigious Early Years and Lower School programmes - based on recognised American and international standards - and seeking authorisation to run the IB Middle Years and Diploma Programmes, and Advanced Placement courses in the coming years. Further information can be found on the website, including information on admission:
It looks like ACS has put up the launch for the new school on their website http://www.acs-schools.com/acs-doha/about-acs-doha.aspx A friend of mine referred me to the site. She has a colleague who is involved with the new school, I will ask her if she has any more information on the syllabus and teaching support and accreditation.
from my experience there, Compass says they will accomodate, but then do nothing. From the words of my daughter's former 3rd year teacher: "I cannot spend any extra time helping (my daughter)" This is when she had a total of 8 students in her class!!
I had to initiate a meeting with the teacher to discuss her issues, the teacher did no research to figure out what kind of accomodations my child needs nor did she bother to read about the issue and what it was.
I pulled my daughter out about 2 weeks later....
We are at ASD now and are very happy. We have monthly meetings with the teacher and counselor to find ways of helping my daughter, they have extra support pull out (and push in) programs, and they do everything to help your child succeed.
This is in reference to some of ur posts in QL. I get an impression that your familiar with schools in doha and you have a child in compass with some different needs. Iam looking for a school for my son 6 years. He has speech delay and some social skills issues. Would compass accept him, and if he is accepted what are the support services they could provide. Do you know any other place where he can get some teaching support?
Doha is in desperate need of American schools that are AFFORDABLE and US ACCREDITED. If ACS can manage that, it will be a huge success. My son will be one of the first students at the "international school" exit doors.
From the looks of the website, ACS is based out of London.
Until it arrives, and hires American/Canadian teachers and I see the curriculum, I will assume its a British school under the guise of being an American school. (not that I'm being cynical or anything....)
I'm 99.9% sure that it is actually an American school that runs campuses overseas.
ASD obviously has the best facilities out there, but for me that's not what's important. I would be surprised if any school can give ASD a run for their money on that front, but I'm sure it will do well barring any major problems with the school as a whole.
The Compass curriculum is based on International Primary Curriculum. There are definitely elements of the British Curriculum in there, but it's not an "English" school. (It's working great for us, in fact - they've done a great job with our son, who has "differences".)
I met with them a couple of weeks ago and yes, they are planning to come to Doha - perhaps as early as this Fall. You can read more about them here: http://www.acs-england.co.uk/
not sure if awfaz global school is what you are talking about but know it has british and american staff but it is a British curriculum. It opened a few months back and i am very pleased with it. It also means i don't have to drive across town as its near Qatar university to drop off my kid. i can recommend this place -small class and high quality.

Hi there, I wouldn't recommend this school ACS ..Lots of showing activities and stuff but, no American education that I know of..

do you have ACS contact details in Doha?
ACS is an American School - they just have campuses in the UK for American / International students
how they are coming visit visa??
or by DHL?
just wondering

Thanks Expat Sueno!
It worries me that is it an English school with American clothing?
Compass promised to be an "International School" but it plainly Enlgish.
It is accredited by the New England association of Schools and colleges, so that somewhat reassures me.
Now the big question- will it compete with ASD, take the kids who can't pass ASD's assesment or be even better than ASD??
