Hello all,

I may be considering move to QR with family. My older kid is 3 y.o. and we would like to put him to one of the nurseries or pre-schools. Our boy does not speak english. We want him to get along with other english speaking kids so he can catch up the language v quick.
Has anyone gone through similair excercise with etheir kiddos ?

You wont find a 3 Bedroom Villa under 12000 Ryal. So make sure you get a good allowance or housing is provided.

I tried to send you a e-mail but cant. Contact me at :

Nath69,

Thanks for answers ! Now that you mention housing.. i read a lot about it on this forums.. looks like its from QAR6000 to QAR20000, compound or not, close to one kindergarten or not, traffic jams etc etc ..

These are too extremes for me, so I left that untill i come over and have a look myself..

Unless of course you have some tips for me..

I am not sure yet, what my contribution in the contract will be, but ideally i'd be looking for a small house or a 3 bed apt in a international compound where kids can socialise and we can benefit from swimpool, playground, gym and friends..

Any suggestions are more than welcome ! Thanx

Its not a problem at the age of your child. Mine spoke no english at all. And for this year I put my kids to a nursery who takes kids until the age of 5 so my big one has one more year to learn english, and its just great the way he can comunicate now and we had no stress. We have no chance to go to an english school (Dess, Parkhouse..) normaly Montessori should take them for sept this year, they take kids even if they dont speak perfect english.

So this is not an issue. The housing is something else....

Only some schools require good english, like the Doha English Speaking School. Most of the smaller ones take all kinds. At my daughter's school there's at least Arabic, French and English speaking kids. My kid has even started speaking with a British accent! Go figure.

I read on the net that English speaking nurseries/pre-schools accept kids if they can communicate well.. could this be an issue when applying ? or at this age its not a prob ?

I arrived with my boys 1,5 years ago, they where aged 2,5 and 3,5. They only spoke french, we put them in a english nursery and now they speak almost perfectly english. They learn so quickly.

Beleive me your kid speaks english, french, arabic, chinese, italian.. you name it. 3 years old can comminicate with each other better than any age, my kid is 3 years old, he speaks french but i have seen him playing with other nationalities and they communicate pretty amazingly

I always tell the truth, even when I lie
