Running dogs off the lead in Doha?

Lacey
By Lacey

Hi all !!

My husband and I are still gathering all our information before our potential move ! We were wondering if there is any where you can run your dog off the lead in Doha? We have a very active border collie who needs to be 'run' by chasing a ball etc as opposed to being walked on a lead (as he will never get enough excercise this way!).

Please let me know if it's possible to do this anywhere.

regards

Lacey

We walked our polite elderly yorkie, on a leash, last night, got a ton of positive attention, but heard today from another expat that it is forbidden to have dogs on corniche, that dogs are not supposed to be in public in qatar.  True?

Eve - where does it say dogs aren't allowed on the Corniche?

Personally I don't think dogs should be allowed there, as they shouldn't be urinating etc where people (esp. kids) are playing, but I've never seen anything actually forbidding it.

We started doing short walks with our dog to the beachy areas in between some of the embassy buildings in West Bay, but then some men with big guns told us not to. I tried to point out that the sign says only swimming is not allowed, not walking, but to no avail. Oh well.

We now use the big patch of land on the city side of the InterCon. Unfortenately a lot of people seem unable to use the bins provided there so there are lots of broken liquor bottles lying around. And it looks like they're about to fence off a large section of it.

I'd say that overall Doha isn't a dog-friendly place, but you'll find plenty of places if you head out of the city.

I also tried to walk my dog near the Landmark at a park that is practically vacant and I was told dogs are not allowed.  Qatar is so far not a dog friendly place.  My friend used to run her dogs on a beach but cars would come and bug her and the dogs, plus they take dogs quickly here. I am still missing a puppy I know was stolen as it had a tag with our number on him.

there is a private Beach(before the offical), nobody is there on weekday. Or you can go behind sealine, but not exactly you should drive a little. Also there is a park behind Hayatt.
