Stray Cats

Hello,
Would like your suggestions on the below matter.
There have been a lot of stray cats on the road and they have been creating nuisance in the last couple of days. However, I am sure many of you might be experiencing one or more of the similar situations below.

1. The cats usually sleep below a static car or on the roof of the car, and as soon as you are about to board the car, they jump from nowhere and scare the life out.

2. During the summer months, these cats are at your door step of your house (maybe the need the cold air from the aircon that sweeps between the door and the floor to sustain the heat during the summer months). The kids open the door and see the cats at the door step, and they start screaming.

3. The cats very often attack the rodents and carry it to the car parking lots and corridors to enjoy their feast. And the remains of the feast are later swarmed by houseflies.

4. The worst of all is they tear open the domestic waste disposed in the city garbage cans and litter the surroundings, which later stinks.

5. There have been occasions when these cats attack the pedestrians and school children.

6. And these cats have been increasing in number day by day.

Is there any organization, to which we could raise the concern?

Send a photo of the cat to [email protected] and we'll advertise it as a lost cat to see if anyone recognises it.

If no-one comes forward then we'll advertise it for adoption and see if we can find a home for it.

Did the vet say how old it is? Is it male or female? Would be interested to find out why they didn't recommend keeping it?! What vet did they take it to?

@ chelsea: you said you worked with stray cats for 8 years, so you might be the person to help me out.

this stray (looked like a house cat. clean, quiet, healthy looking, long fur, friendly; thought it was lost/abandoned) showed up at my door about 10 days back. a friend of mine picked it up and took it away last week to the vet. the vet didnt recommend that it should be kept as a pet(reasons unknown).

anyways he's back at the door now. i just got back from the gym and there he was sitting guard at my door. any advice as how to proceed?

So far i have not heard any cat attacked the school children. Since last 14 years i am feeding street cats and have rescued many cats from street and put them in several camps and rescue place. They are loving and affectionate. Several time I myself took the wounded cats to the animal health center and after treatment left them back. You can see many animal lovers who keep water and food outside for the street cats and birds. You are telling you are about to board the car then they suddenly jump infront of you and make you scared. I have seen many times when we start the car they mostly run away from the place. Due to scorching heat they may be searching some shade or fresh air. Can you imagine with this 46 degree temp where they will go for searching food and water. Garbages are tied tightly and the bins are tightly closed with lid. How can they survive without food and water. Once qatar brought these innocent animals to eradicate the rodent. Qatar Government too are concerned of animals. I know few shaikhs are keeping abanded animals and birds by spending lot of money. One is Shk Ali's fram. He had apponinted many employess and Vet Doctors to take care of these animals. He got two or three farms according my knowlege. There are many Qataris who owns such farm for abandoned animals. Now government too spending money to crop up or neuter to prevent multiplication. There is animal Welfare Center in Qatar.(QAWS) If you get time you visit once along with your family. Definetly your children likes them. Also you will come know how much dedicated the people those who are taking care of these poor animals. In this big world let them also live. I am surprised that you are from India and you are scared of a cat who suddently jump infront of you. Pets are part of humans. Any way for rodent you can complain to the Muncipality. They will come and put some medicine. For neutering the cat you can contact the animal health center at wakra 44560444. They will come and help you.

bahahaha cats attacking....gezzz get a grip man, never heard of such bollocks in my life, and if people disposed of their waste properly rather than leaving it lying around the cats wouldn't get in.

Oh for goodness sake - the cats are not hurting you so leave them in peace!

1. Cats always sit on or under cars and they're doing no-one any harm so what does it matter?

2. I'd be seriously concerned if my children screamed at cats - take your kids down to QAWS and get them socialised with animals. It's unhealthy for children to grow up terrified of animals and they learn that behaviour from the parents.

3. Would you rather have flies feasting on a dead mouse, or mice feasting on the contents of your kitchen cupboards?!

4. Put the rubbish in the proper bins and close the lid.\

5. Cats NEVER attack people un-provoked - that idea is absolutely ridiculous! For a stray cat to attack, you would have to corner it and try to grab it, or get too close to their babies. In over 8 years of working with stray cats, I have never been attacked randomly whilst walking down the street!

Have the cats neutered, give them a bowl of water and leave them to keep the rodent population down. If you get rid of the cats, more will just move in to their territory. It's better to have a healthy, neutered population that keep other strays away, then a load of angry tom cats fighting each other for territory.

Number 5 made me laugh! :))

I'm not really bothered by stray cats in my neighborhood. The only problem is that when they mate they get sooooooooooo noisy and just before I chase them away, some neighbor acts first. Other than that, I think they are peaceful creatures.
