Tragic Accident or Manslaughter

Looks at these statements (statements Roxanne not speculation on ‘social media’) :-

‘Sarrina says she again got a call from Orosco at 11:16 am, saying there was smoke. I said I saw similar information online and asked her not to panic, but check with the security. She called up saying the security informed her that it was a small smoke and there was no fire.” After a few minutes, Orosco again called up Sarrina crying that smoke was coming through the air conditioners. Sarrina told her to put some wet cloths on her face so as to prevent inhaling smoke.’

So the Gympanzee staff had no idea what to do in the event of a fire. Villagio security had no idea what to do in the event of a fire.

No safety training. No evacuation procedure. Faulty systems. Who is to blame? When does an ‘accident’ become manslaughter?

you obviously dont have very good command over the english language. What I IMPLIED is that the management of villagio is incompetent, which is pretty much common knowledge to everyone but you.

Anyway, thanks for the material I can show my colleagues and laugh with at the sheer ignorance and inability to move forward that people here seem to have.

If it is negligence then it is by definition corporate manslaughter.

for them to admit publicly that they are incompetent? You want a person to admit that they are NOT capable of their job publicly? Will you do it Seth if you are in their shoes? It's just like saying I don't deserved this job, fire me! You put a smile in my face Seth.

So if the panel says "ok guys, just admit you are incompetent and you are free to go". Is that your last comment? What do you care?

By seth1279• 2 Jun 2012 00:08
seth1279

And just for the record, I dont really care if they get punished or not.

Are you seriously going to argue that the management of villagio and most malls here for that matter arent completely incompetent who are only here because they will get laughed at in dubai?

I met a VP of a VERY large marketing firm here and it was his own words, that he came here because he failed in dubai because of 'too much competition'

All Im saying is, and what youre finding really hard to comprehend for some reason, is the management here is INCOMPETENT. They couldnt run a grocery store if their lives depended on it let alone a mall.

Admitting that and moving to solving that problem is something you people here find so hard.

I mean even this thread, youre just talking about things that dont even make sense or matter. Please travel around a bit and see how the real world is run and how people constantly improve themselves, and heres a hint, they dont improve by defending mediocrity.

are somewhat contradicting. You don't want to judge but you want them to admit incompetence? You're something!

Can't you wait, if they are proven to be, punish them accordingly. Are you the judge, Seth?

By seth1279• 1 Jun 2012 23:40
seth1279

I didnt judge any one, i just made the observation, that anyone who has been to any malls in the world can make; villagio mall was poorly planned and even more poorly run. The managers had no place running a mom and pop dollar store let alone a large establishment.

Now why is it so hard for them (and their apologists) to admit their incompetence?

By flor1212• 1 Jun 2012 23:33
flor1212

you won't contribute anything here. You will just deepen the wounds of the victims!

By flor1212• 1 Jun 2012 23:26
flor1212

nothing to respond to you. You are already a loser. BTW, who are "we"? And by saying that, are you helping in any way the victims? What do you want now, a revolution? Grow up Mr. Troll!

By flor1212• 1 Jun 2012 20:03
flor1212

You judged prematurely everything as if nothing is right about the mall. I am not saying they are right, but let the investigation go properly first before we react. Pre-empting the outcome has been the business of so many here and that is what I resent not because I want to defend the mall but to make it fair for everyone. Check all my comments, I want to give impartial comment as much as possible and pacify those making unreasonable and irresponsible comments. Even the victims themselves said it, so many unnecessary comments are coming out pre-judging too many people and entities.

CAN'T WE WAIT? CAn unreasonable and irresponsible comments help the victims ease their pain or return the life of those who perished? You know the answers.

flor, this is exactly what I mean, instead of telling me to go back to Dubai, it would be much better if you people here change their attitudes and stop acting like children who throw a hissy fit when they hear something they dont like, something people here are very good at. Learning form mistakes is a really amazing way to improve. Crying after a mistake, blaming others and/or telling people to go away isnt.

As for villagio, tragic event, but really, no surprise considered the extremely poor management of the mall. Maybe the managers there are not worth their hefty salaries after all.

And yes ive been to Dubai mall, clearly marked fire exits free of any obstructions and security personal are trained in evacuation plans. Here they wouldnt understand the word evacuation let alone know any plans.

Please dont embarrass yourself by comparing to anything in Dubai.

periodically also, because even the proponents of such codes will find in actual events that could influence to make the code better and more adaptable to different situation.

Remember, Villagio was opened before the Asian games, so what, 5 or 6 years ago? Is the code the same then and now? Hope so, if not then an improvement should be done correspondingly.

Exactly, most people would rather bury their heads in the sand out here.

All ive learned from this incident is that people here dont know how to handle such events, then dont know how to learn from it and improve.

Its basically a downward spiral all the way. yet another reason why dubai is a far better place to be in.
