Are you curious about Qatar. How the Qatari's live. What their houses are like? What they eat? Their life, customs, habits etc etc. Then look at the site below.

I found by coincidence this site which gives a lot of info on the life in Qatar, before, now, lifestyles, architecture and so much more. A must look at, and very well put together. It has a lot of info and scroll down to the end cos it covers so many sectors of live & living. Let me know what you think.
Enjoy

Probably the case.. Qatar was a small, quaint, picturesque, easy going backwater in those days... Main livelyhood was fishing..

The site was beautiful, and the info it had was both enlightening and interesting!

Life may not be the party we hoped for, but as long as we are here, we might as well dance.

Very interesting. Thank you.

I do find it funny that it's the same few old photos of Doha that keep appearing, either on websites or in magazines or in shops. It's as though there were only 10 or so photos taken back then!

We had an evening (full meal of cooked sheep) out at a bedouin camel racing camp in the days before the proper camel racing establishments at Shahaniya.

We wanted them to keep the camels off the road for the Trans-Q sand yacht race taking place on the following Friday.

We had a great time even having a ride on a racing camel in the dark (40 X 4 wheel drives lined up with headlights on so the camel could see where it was going).

You have to seek it, don't expect it to came to you.

first I thought you want to organize kindda huge event called something like: “GET KNOWING QATARIS”… which would include meetings, gatherings, outings in mixed groups Qataris-non Qataris, visiting their houses, with tasting their originally cooked meals, and such.. but to refer us to some website? … Here we in Qatar, and here Qataris are around.. why do we have to go to the websites and read about their lives?… are they celebrities? if they don’t want us to know them better by meeting them, by making friendship with them, why would I go to this website and read about them?????

I have read a lot about Qatar and qataris prior to coming here.. but now?

I understand what heero means... this info only for those who are out of Qatar and probably wants to come here for visit or for work.. Sorry Aisha, I just express my own opinion...

intresting pictures of old Qatar...History is always nice, and its nice means to remind them of their past too..especially the younger generation.

I am surprised to see your negative comments. I pointed out this website because it is interesting & usefull. Interesting because it shows the past & present. Usefull for all these foreigners to know about the culture, architecture etc

You do not have to neccesarily meet Qataris to know this background. Many of the kids nowadays do not know anything about their culture & history. Also many people do not have the possibility to mix with Qataries. So for their sake, appreciate the point I try to get across.

Qatarisun, my husband is Qatari and he and I really enjoyed seeing some of the pictures as well as reading this material.

Qataris are no different from other Gulf "Arabs"..

The houses vary in size according to status and income.

The main difference between Western homes and tghose in this region is the practice of having seperate sitting areas for females and males.. The other difference is that many homes use the "Majlis" which is a sofa for sitting on the floor..

Qatar is way far different during my first footstep 10yrs ago. Its amazing how fast progress each year. I'm jealous how the Qataris welfare and interest are been look after by their Govt.
