Beating the heat in style

With temperatures soaring in Qatar, it is vital to choose clothes that will help you to beat the heat. Extreme exposure to the summer sun can cause excessive perspiration and more serious complications such as heat allergies, dehydration, and sunstroke. A simple solution to these problems can be achieved by dressing smart and wearing the right clothes. Here are some tips to help you to keep you cool this summer and stay on trend throughout the summer months.

Consider cotton

As temperatures soar in the hot streets of the cityscape, you have to look and function in cooling breathable fabrics that can enable the maximum amount of air through them so that the body feels more comfortable. There are many different types of suitably cooling fabrics ranging from natural fibres to man-made, but the queen of the family by far is cotton. For health, fashion and above all, comfort, natural fibres like cotton are your go-to fabrics to achieve the ultimate in coolness – and have been for millennia.

Cotton is one of the most versatile global fabrics because of its porous fibers, which are hollow in the centre, allowing them to absorb perspiration and then release it quickly. This allows air to pass through the fibers, and also keeps the body cool by drying perspiration. Essentially, cotton more effectively absorbs the sweat from your body and then allows it to escape and evaporate, and by attracting moisture away from your skin, also discourages the growth of yeast and sweat. This makes it the ideal fabric for summer because it prevents the spread of bacteria and consequent infections.

Wear loose clothes

Avoid wearing tight clothes that restrict your circulation. So choose loose fitting styles to allow your blood to circulate freely that are essential in typically desert climes, as they allow better circulation and cooling of the skin by cooling blood flow. Shorts and sleeveless outfits may be tempting in hot times, but the best clothing choices for summer sun are loose pants or long skirts combined with tops.  A long cotton top and baggy pants will create more air circulation than tight clothes sticking to your body.  It may be 50 degrees outside, but you will chill out much more quickly without those unsuitable fabrics sticking to your skin. The thermometer may be higher – but your temperature will be lower!

Choose lighter colours

Wear light clothes in summer since they are better at reflecting sunshine and keeping us cool. Moreover, light-colored clothing looks softer as well as cooler. Yellows, beiges and pure white are the best, reflecting the light of sunlight and its heat away from the wearer and out into the air.

In short, in the scorching daytime city heat, selecting clothes to help keep you feeling cool is vital not only to your appearance but to your state of mind, moods and general health.
