Not a Google search but a quick look on my iTunes, I have:

Shankar Jaikishan = Anari + Shri 420 - can't remeber where they came from!

Sheila Chandra = All albums! She was lead singer of an 80s band in UK called Monsoon. Loved the single (Ever So Lonely), got the album and love her sound. Insomniacs should buy them!!

Susheela Raman = Music For Crocodiles - very relaxing

Got quite a bit of Arabic too (Amr Diab, Fairuz), some Thai, Cajun, African (Love Ladysmith Black Mabazo)

I knew of Amitabh from Crorepati (sp?) - the Indian "Who wants to be a millionaire" show. I also read about how he was still playing young men when he was in his 50s!!

Black dye in the hair now but the beard gives it away.

Watched the occassional Coffee with Karan when bored.

Forgot to mention Ash too (and her duff food shop here)

I have a couple of friends in India on Facebook - they keep sending me Indian Film quizes. Sometimes my guesses are better than theirs!!!

I used to know a lot when I was younger. :) Anyone who lived in Doha before cable television arrived will remember the great tradition of watching Hindi movies on QTV every weekend! In fact when I'm in Doha I still watch some on the Bahrain channel. :)

Sorry if I spell these incorrectly, but here are some actors off the top of my head: Amir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai, Amitabh Bachan, Kajol...also I think there were two brothers with the last name Deol, or something like that...and many more I can't remember without cheating! But I could recognize their faces. :D

So to really answer your question--yes, there are lots of non-Indians who know about Bollywood movies. And not just the big fancy productions like Lagaan which were supposed to impress a "foreign" audience.

Amitabh Bachan (sp) :o)

I see they've just done a Hindi version of "Bruce Almighty" called "God Tussi Great Ho" that is being banned in certain countries
