Funny road signs.. & Australia
You know you're in the middle of nowhere when..
%c*... a billboard announces "Last McDonalds 100 km" (or more)
......You ask for directions to a particular landmark or place and are told it's 'just around the corner'. 10 km later down the road, you finally find it.
...You ask where you are and discover it has no name.
.....the landscape looks all the same and hasn't changed in 500 km (ie in N.T, SA, WA.)
....when in getting from town A to town B in a day you manage to easily listen to all the music in your 10 CD stacker.
...there's only one road and you're on it...for hundreds of kms.
....if you don't fill up with petrol NOW, you won't find another stop for 500 km, by which time it will be too late...

And now, some road signs
This one's self explanatory, but just to show you what colour/shape it is.
1)STOP is more hexagonal, and almost totally red.
2)Speed signs with red rings and white backgrounds are compulsory limits; go more than 3 kms over this, and you will be fined if caught on radar (most likely to happen within cities).
If the speed indicator sign has a yellow background, then it is not compulsory, just a guide (as on winding roads or curves) and you then just have to stick around the figure given, and faster than the last seen compulsory limit.
3)Parking indication signs
An example of a parking sign.
The first number will always refer to the number of hours you can park.
Make sure to observe the times below too (as some only allow parking between certain hours, and may have an "S" with a line through it for 'no standing' at other times.)
4)sign found at the docks at Townsville: http://cache.virtualtourist.com/1/1128474-Travel_Picture-Australia_and_O...
5)And a street sign found in the village of Kuranda, far north Queensland (a state where Aussie humour is often very evident): http://cache.virtualtourist.com/1/1128475-Travel_Picture-Australia_and_O...
going to McDonalds and seeing something called a McOz burger...ordered it because I wondered what it was like..dang..the thing had BEETROOT on it!!! I about spit it out...but it actually wasn't too bad...just caught me off guard.
Most folks are about as happy as they make up their minds to be.
