As most of the users must me going through the add's selling apple iphones in the mobile section. i just wanted to share what happened a few days back.
i replyed to one of the add saying i need a iphone within a few minutes i got a mail asking how many units i need. i mailed him back saying i need 15 units altough i never wanted one. i was intrested in knowing how this people operate. the next day one guy calls me up from the uk with an african acent he told me one iphone will cost 300usd with additional 50usd for the shipping. I asked him what are the method of payments he said that they accept western union, i said i cant send u the money by western union i told him i dont trust you.
then he we dont cheat people as we are a big company then he tells me i can do bank to bank transfer.i said no again....i was just draging the conversation. i asked him how about one of my friend in uk will collect the phones from u directly and pay u cash.then he will ship it across to me. He was lost for words he hung up the phone.i was laughing like anything

shiva - use the 'contact' link to report things to admin, and to suggest your ideas.
he introduced himself as yousuf allan but i dont think thats his real name. the funny thing is these people log in to yahoo messenger also and add you.....thnx for the reply guys
Shouldn't there be a way to report these buggers who post such classifieds so admins can disable their accounts, and make it compulsory to add a local number for every classified?
Would cut down on the fake classifieds by quite a bit, seeing as the mobile section especially is full of these fraud items (or iPhones)
Hence why every classifieds page on QL has this warning;
Make Sure the Seller is in Qatar by checking for a local phone number and don't ever buy anything listed in $. Read Avoiding Scams and Fraud for more advice.
LOL, Nigerions have it rough, hey??!

and they're most popular on ebay!
Must be a Nigerian..

I also got a call from a similar guy, with an African accent, stating that he was from the US and a very big company. I wanted to get a laptop and its really cheap in the US, so when I raised an enquiry thru a US website he contacted me directly. He told me to send the money thru Western Union and he'll ship it across without a problem.
Like sanity would suggest, I didn't go thru with the transaction,,,, and he tried many times, then the same like you he offered me a bank transfer, but, I didn't try that either. He sounded dodgy.. neways, by any chance was the guys name Michael Maloj?
Scams like this have been going on forever. 20something years ago, before the internet got big, Myself and a couple of friends wer suckered into buying PCs through a magazine ad. We wer in Manchester and the 'company' was in London. After 1 month waiting we drove down to their 'workshop' (A Lock-up in a dodgy back street) and asked for our PCSs. We were told they were not ready yet, so, with a bit of help from the local constabulary we simply took away the parts needed and did it ourselves!
The guys involved were under surveillance and were later arrested for fraud :o)
