Second and First Reich ?

The Third Reich in Germany was 1933 to 1945. The Second Reich was 1871 to (I think) 1918. Does anyone know the dates or events that constituted the FIRST REICH ?

the term I, II and III Reich was mainly used in Nazi propaganda and never officially used by Germans
