World Cup 2022 tickets through wasta
Almost a decade before the competition is set to light up the Middle East, the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar is already causing consternation among international football fans. But this time it’s not the country’s high summer temperatures or lack of opportunities for drunken fistfights.
Yesterday it was revealed that just 10 per cent of match tickets would be available to the general public. “Within our tiered structure of ticket allocation, 35 per cent will go to the royal family, 15 per cent to visiting GCC dignitaries, 10 per cent to sponsors and 10 per cent to the public,” said Wissam Al-Ghantoot, vice president of the organising committee. “The remaining 30 per cent will be distributed through wasta in the private sector.”
The announcement triggered widespread criticism from fans across the world who had been hoping to attend.
“This is, to put it mildly, a farce,” claimed Nigel Teaworthy, an England supporter who has been up close and personal for every heartbreak since 1966.
“I have nine sons and three daughters,” tweeted Ivory Coast business magnate Didier Npetu. “This will force me to take only my five favourite sons to Dubai.”
But Etienne Duchamp-Bernard, a FIFA special envoy to Qatar, said that the move fell within the federation’s guidelines for tournament organisation.
“This is their country,” he told reporters from his small private island off the coast of Doha. “Naturally they would want to make sure their friends and well-wishers can enjoy the best seats possible.”
Experts and analysts, however, have suggested the move would create a bustling grey market for the tickets distributed through the wasta system, and many in Qatar have already claimed that they would sell their allocation on.
“I called in a favour and got seven tickets, and will probably use the proceeds for a trip to London or something,” said Vikram Patel, a longtime Doha resident who describes himself as ‘connected’. “After all, who wants to be here in July?”

Satire is just satire nothing else. Sorry for some who don't grasp it
Cultures differ isn't it?
one has not grasped the concept of satire if it is taken as serious truth.
What is satire for one could be a serious matter for someone else.
tickets were distributed during the London games.
Apart from the initial 2/3 days, where corperate sponsors and IOC seats were vacant, every event was filled with genuine public sporting fans.
Btw......satire is often lost on the hard of understanding( that's not directed at you Stealth)
Wasn't that being done in the london Olympics?
i seriously hope this is just a rumor.
Did anyone expect anything different?
They will probably end giving workers free tickets to fill up the stadiums, just like they did in the Asian Cup...
The 2022 world cup has disaster written all over it...
Vikram Patel doing duss ka bees. ;))
this is qatar...hope for the worst!
