I would like to have opinion from an EXPERT that is it necessary to give WATER to an infant/Newly Borned Baby along with BREAST FEEDING or not???
.
Thanks in advance
Congrats for your baby. I read your question regarding water & gas problem for newly born baby. My baby is masha Allah 2 months old now & we also suffered the similar problem. I'll give you my first hand experience insha Allah that will help you.
1. For Gas problem:
If your wife feeds him naturally then wait for 30 seconds after feeding & put him/her on shoulder to make the baby burp. You have to pat the back of your baby slowly which will help in releasing the gas out.
If you are using powder milk also alongwith that then I suggest Similac (which I am also using). Keep some mineral water bottles in home handy & 1 flask which can keep the water hot for long time. Now boil the mineral water very well & keep it very hot in the flask. You have to feed your baby after every 2 hours during first trimester which you should always remember otherwise he/she will have renal failure. Secondly, the proper way to make powder milk for baby is to put 1 scoop of powder to 60 ml of water or 2 scoops to 120 ml of water. Put this in bottle & shake very well in the sink as it starts coming out of bottle. Now pour this milk in a wide glass mug to make it cool or just luke warm for baby to drink easily. After every feed, I immediately make another bottle for my baby & when he is about to wake up I pour a little boiled mineral water to make it luke warm for him, in this way he doesnt cough.
2. Water:-
My baby was getting constipated & was having difficulty in passing the stool. So, I give him just 2 teaspoons or 4 teaspoons of water once in a day everyday. This makes him use his excretory system easily & he doesnt put that much of force too. Also keep Johnson's Petroleum Jelly with you all the time & whenever you change diaper put that jelly a bit outside his pvt part to keep the area soft.
Note: I have given you remedies which I using on my baby & I am quite at peace with this.

The only thing a newborn should receive for at least the first six months is breastmilk. When your child is old enough for solids, small sips of water are okay. As a newborn, however, water should never be offered because many times it would take the place of a feeding. Also, too much water can prove toxifying. Wait until your baby has solids, and even then don't offer too much until at least 8 to 10 months.
i do not know if u heard about exclusive breast feeding program .it means to give yr baby only breast feeding for the first 4-6 month of his/her life, which recommended by WHO and many health authoreties.
my advice to u, do not give more that breast milk unless u have problem with breast feeding then u should consult doctor or even if u in doubt u should get help from yr doctor who will follow u and yr baby. and alot of details will be given to u which i can not say to in chat.
New born don't require water , as brestfeeds is only need during first few week of life, as brest feed fulfils water reqiurment of Infant, In case you feed with water stonach will get filled with water & infant will not receive desired calories & nutrients, also you can expose infant to contamination/ infection, brest milk is ideal & at needed temprature & hygenic, DON't give water to new born
i started to give my son cooled boiled water when he was 6 weeks - doctors in the UK recommend that babies to not need ANYTHING else apart from breast milk for the first few months of a baby's life. But personally i disagree as in my experience i have seen babies get spots and rashes on their face when they are not given water. Try waiting around a month then start by giving three or four tablespoons a day.

you can give water to your baby provided it is a distilled one and in not large amount or quantity.. just little to help in burping...

newly born babies needs their mother's milk the most during their early weeks. Try giving them water when they're a month old.
better yet...consult your pediatrician.
I wouldn't trust any chat site for experts in healthcare...see a baby doctor in person.
