I bring my son yesterday at 7:oopm,after the doctor check up my son he told to me that he cannot priscribe medecine for the cough and cold, i'am surprise'd what he say, i told to the doctor thats why i bring my son here to releave his sick because his cough is already 1 week ang he have cold and fever.the doctor said the ministry of health stop issuing medicine for the cough and cold because some children get side effect. How many question i ask to doctor but they did not answring clear just to show the paper issued from municipality of health and they follow the rules. The doctor said i can buy medicine from outside pharmacy but if anything happen of may son they are not responsible. What kind hamad hospital we have if under 6year old patient cannot priscribe medicine to heal. What kind of doctor have hamad hospital if he cannot explaine what is the reason why stop priscribe medicine just to show the paper from ministry of health and he said no more question and the nurses they said nothing we can do. I told to them what if my son very ill because of his cough and cold just to watch him nothing to do? As a mothor iam very upset what the doctor said and what kind hamad clinic we have if they did not priscribe medicine. By the way my son is two years and 10 months.Just to share only what i experience last night and untill now iam very upset even my son i delivered in hamad women hospital.

 mrs jonalyn  i  can understand as a mother you r worried about your little son. dont worry its  common cold .after four five days he will be normal.better not  go for medicines . try to give him steam inhalation with vicks  apply vicks put one drop of nasel drops in each nostrils before sleep.even nasal drops are not good  In my home country peadiatrician advised me to prepared the drops at home  that is boil some   1/4 th cup water adding some sea salt and allow it to cool and use this water as nasel drops    i used to do this to my sons when they  were small and it give s relief for nasel congesion and no side effects also

  Once I visited Hamad emergency at 10.30 PM with my friend who is severly shevering of fever. After about 45 min waiting time  met the Doctor and he advised to go to the health center as this is just fever.  Strange..  Night 10.30, a person staying in Doha should go to the health centre in industrial area as his card is registered there. His compnay is in indl area, so got registered  there.

I want you to understand few things;

  1) Cough and cold medicines are not curative, they just suppress thje symptoms

  2) They have addictive potentials

   3) There are side effects of these medicines and children are underdeveloped to handle them.

       A simple paracetamol syrup is sufficient. If the phlegm becomes yellow or fever is too high and is there for more than 7 days, then antibiotics can be considered.
