Its the choice of foods, we have one relative that eats all the America fast food and the other one eats all the healthy fresh made Arabic food. The one that eats the fresh food is slim and healthy the other is obese. We didn't have an obesity problem til McDonalds, KFC etc showed up. I saw a man 500 km waddling to the Cinnabon counter one day, I couldn't look. I see kids in the mall walking around eating a hamburger as if its a snack. Plus exercise in this climate and the great amount of cheap house health, people tend to do less and less for themselves.

i don't think you can blame the climate. you have at least 6 good months in doha, if not 8. we have 4 to 6 terrible months in Canada, but many still find ways of exercising.

the diet is one reason. laziness is another. there are of course lazy people everywhere, but i see people here who can not even walk to their cars (parked 10-20 feet away) or who can't even go into a shop to get their food.

there may be a lot of overweight people in the US or UK, and to a lesser extent Canada, but you definitely don't see as many in Spain, Italy or France, where people walk a lot more and are more active.

I think one of the main reason is the climate, also as i heard the oxygen level in this country is low, might be an effect...

I don't think the ratio of fat people here is any greater than other countries I've visited, hence your question is invalid.

Inactive Lifestyle due to extreme climatic conditions and rich diet food at our disposal plus too much attraction towards fatty Fastfoods....Fried and Fries.

Well, there are quite many reasons for it. People here live a sedentary lifestyle and don't have time to work out. They are busy with their jobs and they hardly have time for themselves. Food also is easily available here which becomes a source of luxury in ceratin terms.

With personal experience, I believe that this phenomenon of obesity is more common in women than in men since women basically have to sit at home and don't have many options when it comes to outdoor activities and excercise.

Maybe if some people actually got out of their cars to get something from the local shop instead of bipping their horns, expecting the little indian man to come running to their every need. Notice that those little indian men arent fat but the ones that stay in their cars are

In my experience, i started getting fat when i started to become constantly stressed (due to work, life, etc.) Seems odd isn't it? I think it's the tendency to become more hungry once you're stressed (i read about some scienctific explanation for that somewhere). And since most of us here in the GCC are working not just for our own selves but for families abroad, i think we live with a "work, house, sleep, and off to work again" routine. So, when work is over i'd be tired and hungry so i just eat and sleep. And the next day would have the similar routine again. and although jogging and exercise would be the best solution, but when you've been drained out of strength and sense throughout the day all you could long for is some haagen daaz and a soft pillow under your head :)

...but i've been pulling myself into jogging now, hehe

PM summed it up,

but there is also the lack of promotion and advertisement for body care, gyms, sports and clubs.

And the stress free environment (yes stress is a calorie burner, I proved it :) )

Those who get fat here would have been just as fat in any other country, if they worked and worked out the same way they do here.

One final note, if ur not fat urself, u have no right to ask such question!
