Ethan is back in the Hunt, and how!
Ethan Hunt is back, and he is being hunted! That, in a line, sums up Mission Impossible 5: Rogue Nation quite well.
But what cannot be said in a line is the pure awesomeness of the film, which brings back vintage Hunt back into the equation.
That the movie — which runs for two hours and 12 minutes — packs quite a punch is an understatement. It has everything, from car and bike chases to underwater heists to a breathless opening sequence where Hunt hangs on to the exterior of a plane for dear life.
Tom Cruise, who portrays Hunt, seems to be getting younger with the passage of time. The sheer amount of physical strain he has undergone to perfect his role is breathtaking.
Rebecca Ferguson, who plays disgraced British secret service agent Ilsa Faust is a revelation while Jeremy Renner (AKA Hawkeye from the Avengers), who plays Hunt’s colleague William Brandt, too does admirably well.
The Impossible Mission Force (IMF), of which Hunt is a part, is disgraced and disbanded at the start of the film. Hunt & co suspects the existence of a gang of highly-skilled operatives, out to create chaos, which calls themselves ‘The Syndicate.’
The Syndicate undertakes a series to terror attacks, trying to pave way for a new world order, a new rogue nation. But of course, they cannot succeed when a certain Mr. Hunt is still on his feet, or wheels, or wings, or a parachute.
Purists may feel the movie is a tad too long and could have made better use of the editor’s time. But the slower, funnier portions actually give viewers breathing space in between great action sequences.
Children above 10 would find the movie thrilling (provided you’re ok with exposing them to almost non-stop action). It’s expletive-safe (mostly) and there is a brief scene of partial nudity.
Verdict: Hunt is back in the hunt with a vengeance. If you’re a fan, you better go watch him first thing today. Nine out of 10.
Saw the movie. Its hopeless. Didnt like it.
He'll soon be using a zimmer frame in Mission Impossible 6:
Oh no Spoilers ahead.
