Sprint race
Fans of the sport will find this year’s race in Qatar even more appealing, thanks to Losail Circuit being chosen as one of the six venues for sprint races.
According to F1, the decision to have the sprint event at the six locations was made following research that calculated the most suitable tracks for overtaking opportunities, close racing, and high-speed sections. This will also ensure competitive on-track action for fans across all three days of the race weekend.
Location - Lusail International Circuit
The Lusail International Circuit, located on the outskirts of Doha, is quite interesting. It was built in preparation for hosting Qatar’s first MotoGP in 2004. The F1 GP was held for the first time in 2021 and the country has signed an additional 10-year deal to host the sport from 2023.
Designed primarily with motorcycle racing in mind, the 5.4km Lusail Circuit is a fast and flowing one where medium and high-speed corners predominate. Over 1km of the track’s total length is made up of the main straight, which provides plenty of overtaking opportunities into Turn 1.
The grandstand at the exit of Turn 10 gives fans the chance to watch the cars blasting through this dynamic section of the track, pitching right through the fast kink of Turn 9 and into the Turn 10 braking zone.
