COVID-19 vaccine effective against Delta variant in Qatar: Dr. Al Maslamani
According to the Medical Director of Hamad General Hospital Dr. Yousef Al Maslamani, the vaccines being administered in Qatar are effective and safe against the new Delta variant.
He explained that vaccinations protect people from severe symptoms that could lead to hospitalization.
Vaccinated persons could develop a little infection, whereas unvaccinated people could get a severe infection and need to go to the hospital and ICU.
Speaking on the importance of preventive measures for vaccinated people, he said, “So far, the vaccine is safe and effective, however, the latest study suggests that even vaccinated people could transmit the infection to unvaccinated people.”
“This is why we are asking people to still adhere to preventive measures like wearing face masks, maintaining social distance, washing hands properly after touching anything,” he added.
Dr. Al Maslamani urged people to get the vaccine as soon as possible, noting that 4,500 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered to individuals around the world without serious side effects.
He stated that the COVID-19 vaccine has well-known adverse effects that individuals have experienced, such as a low fever that goes away in two days.
Dr. Al Maslamani urged people to come out and acquire the vaccines as soon as possible so that the community can be protected against COVID-19.
He commended the people of Qatar for implementing precautionary steps and responding to the National Vaccination Campaign, which has resulted in millions of individuals being vaccinated.
“Cases of infection are almost stable. A little bit increase was recorded last week because of family visits during Eid Al Adha,” said Dr. Al Maslamani.
Dr. Al Maslamani noted that the Delta variant of COVID-19 is spread quickly across nations, including Qatar.
With many people traveling in Qatar being potential hosts for the new variant, Qatar had decided to postpone the fourth phase of lifting COVID-19 restrictions and revise phase 3 yesterday.
