Indian Embassy celebrates 10th UN International Day of Yoga in Doha
The Indian Embassy in Qatar, in partnership with Indian Sports Centre and other community organizations, celebrated the 10th International Day of Yoga (IDY) at the Asian Town Cricket Stadium on Friday.
The event, which was held under the theme ‘Yoga for Self and Society,’ began with the playing of a video message by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“Yoga is a timeless practice that celebrates oneness and harmony. Yoga has transcended cultural and geographical boundaries, uniting millions across the globe in pursuit of holistic well-being. Yoga offers a sanctuary of calm, enabling us to navigate life's challenges with calm and fortitude,” Narendra Modi said in his recorded address.
India’s Ambassador to Qatar Shri Vipul welcomed participants and emphasized that this year’s theme stressed the holistic benefits one can draw from the ancient Indian tradition.
“The regular practice of Yoga exercises and meditation has a transformational effect on people’s mind and body. It’ll bring them closer to nature and contribute in fostering harmony in society,” he said.
The performance of the Common Yoga Protocol by participants was the event’s highlight. Over 2000 yoga practitioners and enthusiasts — including children, youth, and women from all sections of the society — attended. Enthusiastic participation was also seen in yoga competitions held for both children and adults.
