The Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) has approved allotment of 10 plots of land for construction of private schools and five plots for private hospitals, says the 2015-16 annual report, according to The Peninsula.

This is to encourage private investment in health and education sectors.

The ministry also conducted a total of 27,390 inspections at 1,168 outlets and detected 933 violations over the past one year, says the report titled “Towards more prosperity.”

Qataris represent 83% of the newly-recruited employees at the ministry but the qualifications of only 31% of these employees match with the nature of the job, says the report.

The report focused on projects and initiatives implemented by the ministry with the aim of achieving the ministry’s visions and mission, sustainable development and enhancing partnership with private sector.

The report included statistical data focusing on initiatives taken by the Ministry in the areas of trade, economy and protection of consumer rights.

The Ministry has set up 44 markets with 645 shops for different commercial activities as the first phase of its Al Furjan market project.

The Ministry has facilitated registration and issuance of licences by adding nine new branches for providing different services and introducing e-services applications.

The Ministry registered a total of 7,761 different types of companies including foreign companies during the period.
