As Qatar continues the implementation of Phase 3 of the gradual lifting of COVID-19 restrictions, the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has announced that an additional 200 mosques in Qatar will be reopened for Friday prayers from August 7, 2020.

Together with the 200 mosques opened to worshippers earlier, when Phase 3 began, the total number of mosques where Friday prayers will be held in Qatar has reached 400.

A list containing the names, numbers, and locations of the additional mosques for Friday prayers is available here.

Worshippers can also locate the nearest mosque through this website.

Awqaf has urged everyone going to the mosques for prayers to comply with the preventive and precautionary guidelines.

“All precautions and safety measures announced in the last phase of reopening are applicable,” according to a tweet by the Ministry.

Director of Mosques Management Department at the Ministry, Mohamad bin Hamad Al Kuwari appreciated the cooperation of Imams and worshipers for cooperating with the department to ensure the safety of all.

He emphasized that the continued adherence to the safety guidelines will help the department to reopen the remaining mosques across the country.

Earlier, Awqaf had highlighted the below safety guidelines to be followed by all worshippers to protect themselves and others against COVID-19:

- worshippers will be required to make ablution at home. The bathroom and ablution places of the mosques will remain closed.

- worshippers should avoid going to the mosques earlier than the prayer time, as the mosques will only open with the call to prayer.

- worshippers must also avoid crowding the mosque and keep a distance of two meters from others.

- shaking hands even with gloves on must be avoided and worshippers should cover their mouth and nose when sneezing or coughing.

- to enter the mosques, worshippers will need to show their Ehteraz app.

- worshippers are asked to bring their own prayer mat and refrain from sharing it with others or leaving it in the mosque.

- while in the mosques, all worshippers need to wear a face mask.

- worshippers are also asked to bring their own copy of the Holy Quran, which should not be shared with others.

People over 60 years old, children, and those suffering from chronic conditions are advised to pray at home.

For any queries, or concerns related to COVID-19 in Qatar, the public can contact a 24/7 hotline set up by the Ministry. The hotline number is 16000 and is toll-free.

Here's everything you need to know about the virus, including ways to protect yourself.
