58 new cases of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) have been recorded in Qatar according to the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH).

With these new cases, the total number of coronavirus patients in Qatar jumped to 320.

54 of the new cases are related to the cases identified earlier among expatriate workers and most of these cases have already been in quarantine. The other four cases are related to travel contacts. All new cases are receiving suitable care under complete isolation and they all are in stable health condition. The Ministry is expanding the scope of testing for COVID-19 to trace all possible contacts of infected patients.

The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) calls upon all citizens and residents to avoid crowded places and postpone social gatherings for the time being, for their own safety and that of the community.

Elderly people, and people with chronic health conditions are advised to avoid going out unless necessary, as they are more susceptible to infections, according to MoPH.

As health authorities in the country continue to implement the highest level of monitoring, detection, and management procedures to deal with the virus, the public has been advised to follow certain measures to safeguard their health.

This includes, washing your hands often, using hand sanitizers, and keeping a distance of at least one metre (3 feet) from people who have symptoms of illness.

MoPH also advises citizens and residents to use sleeve to cover the nose and mouth while coughing and sneezing in public or to use tissue paper and dispose it appropriately.

For any queries, or concerns related to COVID-19 in Qatar, the public can contact a 24/7 hotline set up by the Ministry. The hotline number is 16000 and is toll-free.

Here's everything you need to know about the virus, including ways to protect yourself.
