97% of strategic goods imported directly, says General Authority of Customs
After the start of the illegal siege of Qatar, the country has succeeded in increasing the direct import of strategic goods to its shores.
If the rate of direct import was 82.8% in May, it has increased to 97% by November, thus ensuring availability of goods of high quality at competitive prices, reported Gulf Times.
Chairman of General Authority of Customs (GAC) Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Jamal said this reflects Qatar’s ability to tackle shortage of goods and meet the country’s requirements in co-ordination with importers, which led to diversifying sources of high quality imports at suitable prices.
Chairman of the General Customs Authority (GCA) Ahmed Abdullah al Gammal said this reflects the ability of the government to protect the Qatari economy from shortage of goods and meet the market requirements in full coordination with importers, which led to diversifying sources of high-quality imports with suitable prices from other countries, according to Qatar Tribune.
The GCA has also deployed qualified personnel at sea port and airport to ensure quick release of goods, especially perishable ones, while ensuring the safety of society.
The direct import of new products from other countries after the start of the unjust blockade and the opening of local companies to international markets have ensured that the construction of all state projects continue at the same pace.
He also said that blockade has had no impact on the availability of medicines after imports from the siege countries stopped. Suppliers were able to provide suitable alternatives without affecting the prices of medicines.
I pray to re-unite all siege countries and become more rigid together as before blockade.
punchliner: there will be an initial period of price volatility and I'm surprised that you are surprised by it... the other possibility could've been a severe shortage of commodities and thankfully that didn't happen... Qatar has done a great job of handling the overnight crisis it was pushed into and as we settle into this new reality, you will see prices stabilise and an even better selection of goods and services available than before; they thought they could break Qatar and they will now see Qatar become even more awesome than it already was :-)
Even though prices of commodities might have gone up but still everything are available nearby our door step. sooner i am confident that prices will go down day by day and will be stable.
after all blockade i can see all commodities are available in Qatar which is not at all very easy and for that i really appreciate Qatar government, hats off to this government..
But you can't deny the fact that cost of commodities have gone up !!
